Radiologic Technologist 1 is responsible for use of radiological equipment in diagnostic examinations in a clinic, emergency room or main hospital laboratory area. A related responsibility is for assisting radiologists or other medical specialists in performing fluoroscopic procedures. Employees in this classification operate stationary and mobile x-ray equipment for diagnostic purposes, taking chest, body section, and other radiographs.

Responsibilities include:

• Producing radiographs of chest, abdomen, extremities, spine, and other areas by use of x-ray equipment in an emergency room, clinic or hospital area in a safe and responsible manner while maintaining a sensitivity to the patient's age-specific needs.
• Positioning patients and taking required radiographs following fluoroscopic examinations.
• Adjusting equipment at appropriate angles and heights and positioning patients appropriately for x-ray examinations.
• Providing radiation protection in accordance with prescribed age-specific safety standards.
• Computing technical factors, on an individual patient basis, to produce radiographs of proper detail, density and contrast to ensure good quality control.
• Transporting patients to and from appropriate holding areas or other assigned areas.
• Operating portable x-ray equipment, as assigned, performing chest or other examinations that must be completed at the bedside.
• Providing and using immobilization devices as required, while adhering to safety standards particular to the age-specific needs of the patient.
• Assisting radiologists or other medical specialists during fluoroscopy.
• Assisting physicians in administering contrast materials.
• Maintaining safety standards.
• Assisting supervisors in demonstration of techniques to radiologic technology students.
• Copying pertinent clinical information from Medical Record to radiology request form.
• Utilizing appropriate HIS Computer System functions and following through to record complete or incomplete procedure.
• Performing selected procedures in other areas of the radiology department when requested.
• Rotating within department, as required.
• Receiving on-the-job training in specialized technical areas and attending department in-service programs to learn the use of new equipment and/or advanced techniques.
• Following appropriate infection control policies and procedures, including Universal Precautions.
• Responsible for appearance of assigned radiographic room and cleaning of equipment and accessories.
• Performing basic duties in patient care, and initiating life supporting measures for patients, if necessary.
• Complying with all safety rules and regulations, departmental and hospital rules and protocol for all procedures.
• Possessing and maintaining understanding of the principles of growth and development as they pertain to patients in all age populations.
• Assisting registration as needed with assigned duties (quick registering, welcoming patients and bringing patients to treatment area).
• Attending minimum of 80% of scheduled staff meetings.

• Performing all other related job duties as assigned.

Generally requires 0 to 3 years of related experience.

Associate's degree in Radiology Technology is required. Valid Florida state license as a Radiology Technologist required. American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification with at least 6 months validity required.

Physical Requirements - Job function requires extended standing or walking. Must be able to carry objects weighing 21 to 50 pounds. Able to lift or move objects weighing 51 to 100 pounds with the use of appropriate devices. Jobs in this group require frequent visual acuity to perform activities related to extended use of computers. Environmental Conditions - Jobs in this group are required to function in a fast paced environment with occasional high pressure or emergent and stressful situations. Frequent interaction with a diverse population including team members, providers, patients, insurance companies and other members of the public. Function is subject to inside environmental conditions, with occasional outdoor exposures. Exposure to various environments such as: communicable diseases, toxic substances, medicinal preparations and other conditions common to a hospital and medical office environment. May also be exposed to needle sticks, airborne infections, medical gases, X-Ray, chemical exposures and other potential hazards. Must wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when exposed to infectious/clinical hospital environment.
