Job Description
The Machinist programs, sets up, and operates 3- and 5-axis CNC routers, mills, and other machining centers to produce precise parts that meet customer specifications and internal quality standards. This role designs and develops tooling and fixtures, interprets 2D prints and 3D models, and collaborates closely with engineering, sales, and plant teams to ensure accurate, efficient, and safe production.
Responsibilities

• Generate CNC programs for 3- and 5-axis routers, mills, and other machining centers.
• Design and develop tooling and machining fixtures to support efficient production.
• Read and comprehend work orders, production instructions, 2D prints, and 3D models.
• Track and document all revisions to product drawings, tooling, and related documentation.
• Partner with engineering and sales teams to ensure parts meet customer specifications.
• Provide feedback to management on potential risks, process improvements, and problem resolution.
• Ensure all projects and parts comply with required specifications and internal quality standards.
• Precisely machine parts to specifications using CNC mills, 3- and 5-axis routers, and equipment such as Haas, Fadal, and DMS machines.
• Accurately calculate dimensions and tolerances using mathematics and measuring instruments such as gauges, calipers, and micrometers.
• Complete machine setups according to part specifications and production requirements.
• Monitor machine feed and speed during machining to maintain quality and efficiency.
• Verify that materials and molds meet quality standards and are ready for production.
• Assist with machine maintenance and adhere to established maintenance schedules.
• Perform job responsibilities using safe and proper techniques in accordance with standards of conduct and integrity.
• Consistently achieve productivity standards and contribute to meeting production goals.
• Comply with all health and safety regulations and company quality policies and standards.
• Follow supervisor direction on all assignments and production priorities.
• Communicate effectively with supervisors and plant teams regarding product production and workflow.
• Work on multiple assignments simultaneously while maintaining accuracy and organization.
• Exhibit strong organizational skills, logical thinking, and effective time management.

Essential Skills

• High school education or equivalent.
• Several years of CNC machining and programming experience.
• Hands-on experience in a machine shop, job shop, or production environment.
• Ability to program, set up, operate, and change over CNC machines, including mills, routers, lathes, and grinders.
• Strong blueprint reading skills and ability to interpret mechanical drawings, 2D prints, and 3D models.
• Proficiency with CAD/CAM systems for machining applications.
• Knowledge of MasterCAM and SolidWorks for programming and design tasks.
• Skill in calculating dimensions and tolerances using mathematics and precision measuring instruments such as gauges, calipers, and micrometers.
• Ability to monitor and adjust machine feed and speed during machining.
• Capability to lift 50 pounds repeatedly throughout the shift.
• Strong organizational, logical thinking, and time management skills.
• Ability to work on multiple assignments simultaneously while maintaining quality.
• Effective communication skills for working with supervisors and plant teams.
• Demonstrated ability to follow instructions, policies, and standards related to quality, safety, and conduct.
• Commitment to maintaining a clean, safe, and orderly work area.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience designing and developing tooling and machining fixtures.
• Experience with Haas, Fadal, and DMS CNC equipment.
• Proficiency in general machine operating, including grinders and lathes.

Work Environment
The role is based in a small, family-oriented machine shop environment that emphasizes cleanliness, safety, and teamwork. The shop is clean and well maintained, with a focus on keeping work areas neat and organized. Typical hours are Monday through Thursday from 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. You work directly with CNC mills and 3- and 5-axis routers, including equipment such as Haas, Fadal, and DMS machines, and use precision measuring tools like gauges, calipers, and micrometers in day-to-day operations.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Baltimore, MD.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $32.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
