ASSISTANT PROJECT MANAGER - WATER / WASTEWATER TREATMENT PLANTS

Richmond, VA (Richmond to Virginia Beach corridor) | Full-time, direct hire

Schedule: Full-time, office and field, travel within the region as projects require

Pay: Up to $115,000 per year depending on experience

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

A self-performing heavy civil general contractor with a large water and wastewater treatment plant portfolio across the Southeast is adding an Assistant Project Manager to its Civil and Environmental division. This is a self-perform shop: the company runs its own concrete crews, heavy equipment operators, pipe crews and electricians rather than subcontracting the physical work. You will support the Project Manager on treatment plant projects and independently carry about $5 million in contract value.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

Project management assistance

- Create, update and manage schedules

- Develop the project budget on award

- Prepare billing materials

- Document and submit change orders; analyze cost for extra work

- Coordinate subcontractors

- Review labor reports and guide crew management

- Maintain the project forecast

Engineering

- Know the specifications and communicate contract scope

- Expedite material procurement and track approvals

- Prepare and track submittals; obtain material certifications

- Maintain project files and drawings

- Process invoices and approve vendor/subcontractor payments

- Manage subcontracts and purchase agreements

Implementation

- Build relationships with clients and engineers

- Deliver on-time, on-budget project completion

- Optimize cash flow

- Manage subcontractor relations

Safety and team building

- Monitor job site safety and administer safety policy

- Recommend safety improvements

- Support company core values and team development

WHAT YOU NEED

- Experience as an Assistant Project Manager on water or wastewater treatment plant construction with a self-performing general contractor (a firm that employed its own concrete, equipment and electrical crews). This is a hard requirement.

- Must have performed the Assistant Project Manager role itself

- Four-year engineering degree or equivalent

- Primavera P6 or similar scheduling software

- Five years of construction, design, finance and management experience

- Ability to construct $5 million in contract value

- Superior communication and interpersonal skills

- Valid, non-restrictive driver's license

- 18 years of age or older, able to pass a drug test, legally eligible to work in the US

Split between the project office and active heavy civil construction sites: treatment plants, concrete structures, process piping and heavy equipment. Projects located in the Richmond to Virginia Beach corridor.
