Senior Safety Specialist Position Overview

The Senior Safety Specialist will lead and advance the company’s health and safety programs to prevent incidents, ensure regulatory compliance, and promote a strong safety culture across operations. This role is responsible for developing and implementing safety policies, conducting risk assessments and job hazard analyses (JHAs), delivering training, supporting incident investigations, and advising leadership on continuous improvement opportunities.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, implement and maintain company-wide safety programs, policies and procedures aligned with OSHA and industry standards.
• Conduct regular site inspections, safety audits and risk assessments; prepare corrective action plans and follow up on mitigation activities.
• Perform and coach others on Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) to identify hazards and define controls for high-risk tasks.
• Lead incident and near-miss investigations, prepare root cause analyses, and recommend corrective and preventive actions.
• Deliver and facilitate safety training, including OSHA 30 and other tailored courses; develop training materials and measure effectiveness.
• Provide technical guidance and oversight for contractor safety management and vendor compliance.
• Maintain accurate safety records, prepare regulatory reports, and support OSHA and other agency inspections.
• Collaborate with operations and leadership to set safety goals, KPIs, and continuous improvement initiatives; communicate outcomes and lessons learned.
• Mentor and support safety staff and frontline supervisors; serve as a subject matter expert on occupational safety practices and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

• Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health, Engineering or related field preferred.
• Minimum 5+ years of progressive experience in occupational safety, preferably in construction, manufacturing, or industrial environments.
• Certifications preferred: OSHA 30, CHST (Construction Health and Safety Technician), OSHA 500, CSP (Certified Safety Professional) candidates with a combination of these credentials are strongly desired.
• Demonstrated experience performing JHAs, safety audits, incident investigations and corrective action tracking.
• Proven ability to develop and deliver effective safety training to diverse audiences.
• Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations, industry best practices, and regulatory reporting requirements.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal and leadership skills; ability to influence at all levels of the organization.
• Proficient with safety management systems, incident tracking software, and Microsoft Office; comfortable with data analysis and KPI reporting.
• Willingness to travel to job sites and work in varied field environments as required.
