Locum Tenens Hospitalist Job Details

• Weekly Estimated Pay: $6,390–$7,570
• Schedule: On-site 12-hour shifts, including rounder shifts from 7:00 a.m.–7:00 p.m., admitter shifts from 8:00 a.m.–8:00 p.m., and nocturnist shifts from 7:00 p.m.–7:00 a.m.
• Coverage: Weekends and nights may be included; no off-site call
• Facility Setting: 190-bed community hospital with an open ICU model and Level III trauma services
• Patient Volume: Approximately 18–24 rounding patients per day, with 12–18 daytime admissions and 12–20 nighttime admissions
• Orientation: One day of shadowing and one day of orientation, including EMR training

Hospitalist Physician Requirements

• Board certification in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine
• At least 1 year of hospitalist experience; 2 years is preferred for credentialing and case-log review
• Active Georgia physician license
• Active Georgia DEA registration
• Demonstrated competency with ICU admissions, critical care rounding, and management of up to 8 critical care patients
• Ability to independently resuscitate a patient and lead or participate in codes before additional support arrives
• Experience with critical care time documentation and billing
• Ventilator bundle management during the first 24 hours of ventilation is required; subsequent ventilator management is supported by an intensivist
• Clinical experience with vasopressor titration, antiarrhythmic medications, nicardipine infusions, and central lines
• Paracentesis and thoracentesis experience is welcome but not required
• Clean professional record suitable for credentialing

Hospitalist Physician Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive on-site care for adult medical-surgical and critical care patients
• Round on approximately 18–24 patients daily and participate in daily multidisciplinary rounds
• Evaluate and manage new admissions, including daytime and nighttime admission coverage
• Assess and stabilize critically ill patients, manage ICU admissions, and provide critical care rounding
• Run codes and independently initiate appropriate resuscitation measures when needed
• Perform required initial ventilator management and coordinate ongoing care with the intensivist
• Manage acute conditions requiring vasopressors, antiarrhythmics, and nicardipine infusions
• Collaborate with advanced practice providers, nursing staff, specialists, and other members of the care team
• Participate in daily 11:00 a.m. grand rounds and centralized multidisciplinary discussions
• Coordinate appropriate referrals and follow-up with community primary care providers at discharge
• Provide care for a predominantly adult and geriatric community-hospital population; trauma patients are directed to the surgical team
