Job Title: RN - PCU Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Progressive Care Unit Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12-hour Night Shift Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: 18 months of PCU experience required License: Active RN License Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: General PCU skillset including: - Stroke experience - Cardiac rhythm interpretation - Tracheostomy care - Peripheral IV starts - Chest tube management - NGT placement - Drain and tube management (including Dobhoff, PEG tubes, Hemovac, JP drains, flexiseals, foley insertion and management) - PCA pump management - Medication drip management (including cardiac drips, Heparin, Insulin, blood products, IV fluids) Description: This position is for a Registered Nurse in the Progressive Care Unit. The facility has 207 licensed beds with no trauma designation. This is not a teaching hospital. The unit has 10 MedSurg beds and 10 Progressive Care beds. Patient types include Heart Failure, Chest Pain, risk of Stroke, General Medical Sepsis, Renal Failure, Respiratory Failure, DKA, and interventional patients requiring titratable drips. Patient ratios are RN: MedSurg 1:5-6 and PCU 1:3-4. Support within the department includes a certified nursing assistant, receptionist, and charge nurse. Additional support is provided by a phlebotomy team for peripheral blood draws and an IV team available from 11 AM to 7 PM and 11 PM to 7 AM. Respiratory Therapy is available 24/7. There are hospitalists and intensivists in-house until 11 PM Monday through Friday and until 7 PM on weekends. Telemetry monitoring is not provided, and floating is required to all units within scope and below, as well as to other facilities within the region and scope of practice. Weekend rotation is required every other week with no call. Travelers will work 75% of holidays. Requests for time off can be approved for up to 6 days, excluding holidays, with the requirement to add time to the end of the contract if contracted hours are not met.
