BEHAVIORAL SPECIALIST / MENTAL HEALTH THERAPIST

CHARACTERISTICS OF WORK

The Behavior Specialist \Mental Health Therapist provides direct services to consumers in a school-based program and assigned program. Participates in center programs as needed.

EXAMPLES OF RESPONSIBILITIES

Maintains documentation as evidence that all duties are completed in accordance with program requirements contained in the Department of Mental Health Operational Standards; Maintains proper training, continuing education, qualifications, and other certifications required for this position as written in the Department of Mental Health Operational Standards; Provides a minimum of 5 hours/day of direct face-to-face services to consumers; Provides 24-hour telephone “on-call” crisis intervention referral (as scheduled). Complete intake evaluation interviews with responsibility for seeing that proper routing of consumers and records is performed; Provide therapy services to consumers in accordance with treatment plans; Responsibility for development and implementation of treatment plans; Participate in clinical staff meeting, general staff meetings and in service training; Assist in providing and implementing consultation and education services as directed by the Center Coordinator and/or Clinical Director; Participate in psycho-social/day treatment program as directed by Center Coordinator and/or Clinical director; Maintain a \"Consumer-Oriented\" focus in the provision services to Region 8 Consumers; Accept and participate in case supervision by the Center Coordinator and Program Coordinator; Participate in continuing education by attending Workshops, seminars and other professional meetings; Build and promote community relationships with referral sites; and All other duties as assigned by supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS

Master's Degree in Mental Health, Psychology, Social Work, or related field. Must possess a professional license (LPC, P-LPC, LMFT, LCSW, or LMSW) or be eligible to earn a DMH credential as a Mental Health Therapist, Intellectual and Developmental, Disabilities Therapist, or Addictions Therapist (as appropriate to the service and population being served). Must maintain a valid MS driver’s license. Must pass a criminal background check
