The Role

This Austin-based role generates leads and books convention business for Fort Worth. This position builds high-value relationships with state association and third-party meeting decisionmakers across Central Texas, positioning Fort Worth as a compelling destination for major meetings and conventions. The Director will maintain key accounts, develop new business, advance qualified opportunities and help drive contracted room nights, convention center utilization and economic impact for the city.

Key Responsibilities

• Own and grow a portfolio of high-value Central Texas citywide convention accounts (10+ Peak, Austin based Texas Association accounts).
• Prospect for new business through research, networking, referrals, outreach, sales missions, and in-market engagement.
• Build strong relationships with association and third-party decisionmakers.
• Qualify opportunities based on room nights, venue needs, economic impact, and Fort Worth’s ability to win.
• Develop destination strategies and presentations tailored to client needs.
• Create timely sales leads and align hotels and venues on competitive proposals.
• Conduct site visits, FAMs and destination experiences that move business toward booking.
• Manage opportunities from prospecting through definite booking with consistent follow-up and accurate pipeline management.
• Negotiate and close business with a focus on long-term value.
• Represent Visit Fort Worth at industry events, trade shows and client activations.
• Maintain strong knowledge of Fort Worth’s convention product, hotel package, development pipeline and competitors.
• Meet/exceed goals for contracted room nights, qualified leads, prospecting and pipeline development.
• Use CRM and sales tools consistently to track activity, forecast business, and manage accounts.
• Collaborate with internal teams and hospitality partners to ensure seamless client experiences.
• Support Visit Fort Worth’s mission, values and accountable team culture.

Success Metrics

1. Strong pipeline of large, qualified convention opportunities across short-term and long-term need years.
2. Growth in contracted room nights, citywide bookings and convention center business from Austin-based accounts and decisionmakers.
3. Deeper relationships and greater Fort Worth visibility within the Austin meetings and association community.
4. Consistent, strategic account management with clear next steps, accurate forecasting and disciplined conversion of opportunities.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Austin-based with an established convention and association network.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education and experience.
• 5+ years of convention, destination, hotel, venue or group sales experience; citywide sales preferred.
• Proven success meeting sales goals and closing high-value group business.
• Established relationships with Texas associations, meeting professionals and/or third-party planners preferred.
• Strong prospecting, presentation, negotiation, relationship-building, and closing skills.
• Ability to work independently in Austin-based office while collaborating with Fort Worth-based teams and partners.
• Ability to travel regularly, including occasional evenings and weekends.
