Community Coordinator

Description

We are seeking dedicated and passionate TC2H Community Coordinators to support our Teaching Culture, Honoring Heritage: Bristol Bay's Native Language Empowerment Collaborative (TC2H) project. These individuals will oversee and implement language and cultural initiatives aligned with the foundation's goals. The Community Coordinator will play a key role in strengthening connections between Alutiiq communities, schools, and teachers through the Cultural Enrichment Program. In close collaboration with partners, schools, and tribes, the Community Coordinator will administer and deliver culturally responsive enrichment activities that celebrate local traditions and integrate them into academic and extracurricular settings.

This position is central to planning and implementing Immersive After-School Activities in Port Heiden. These activities will bring together students, families, educators, elders, and community members to promote intergenerational learning and cultural vitality.

The Bristol Bay Foundation, a non-profit 501(c)(3) established in 1991, is committed to encouraging BBNC shareholders and descendants to pursue educational opportunities while preserving the rich cultural heritage of the Bristol Bay region. Our foundation operates scholarship programs, cultural and heritage grants, and engages in fundraising to empower and uplift our community.

Requirements

• Prior experience working in education, cultural programming, or youth engagement.
• Proficiency or familiarity in Alutiiq language (or willingness to learn).

Essential Skills:

• Strong understanding of and connection to Alutiiq culture, language, and community traditions.
• Experience in event planning, community organizing, or program coordination.
• Ability to work collaboratively with schools, tribes, and diverse community members.
• Excellent communication, organizational, and outreach skills.
• Willingness to travel between communities as needed.
• Knowledge of and sensitivity to the cultural nuances of Alaska Native communities.
• Familiarity with curriculum design, academic standards, and community-based learning.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and facilitation skills.
• Commitment to the preservation and revitalization of Alaska Native languages and cultures.

Work Environment:

Physical Demands: Sitting, standing, walking and occasional lifting up to 25 pounds. Work environment includes various locations in office and other public buildings and use of computer, audio/visual and general office equipment.


Essential Duties & Job Functions

• Build strong relationships and communicate with partner districts, tribal entities, and local communities to ensure relevance and sustainability.
• Plan and facilitate immersive cultural enrichment activities in partnership with local schools, tribes, and community partners.
• Align cultural activities with academic calendars, guest speakers, and local artist sessions.
• Organize hands-on workshops that connect cultural themes with school and/or extracurricular programs.
• Work with school administrators and tribal governments to secure venues for activities.
• Arrange transportation for elders, guest speakers, and community participants as needed by activities.
• Coordinate with educators to ensure teacher participation and classroom alignment.
• Conduct outreach and communication to promote events within communities.
• Participate in meetings with the BBF Alutiiq Language Team, tribal representatives, and knowledge bearers.
• Foster collaboration between schools and tribal communities to strengthen relationships and mutual understanding.
• Maintain accurate records of activities, attendance, and program outcomes.
• Establish and implement evaluation and feedback methods for continuous program improvement.
• Submit regular reports to program leadership and external evaluator agencies as required to ensure responsible grant reporting on performance measures.
• Regularly review program outcomes and adjust strategies as needed.
• Integrate cultural preservation efforts into educational programs, respecting and celebrating the rich heritage of Alaska Native communities.

This position is funded through the U.S. Department of Education's Alaska Native Education Program. Continued employment is contingent upon the availability of grant funds.
