Job Title: Chief Financial Officer (CFO)Position Summary:Wausau Tile is seeking an experienced, strategic, and business-minded Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to provide executive leadership for the company’s financial strategy, performance, and overall business operations. The CFO will serve as a key strategic partner to the President and executive leadership team, providing financial insight and guidance to support profitable growth, operational excellence, risk management, and long-term business objectives.The CFO is responsible for the overall financial health and direction of the company, including financial reporting, accounting, budgeting, forecasting, financial planning and analysis, cash and capital management, banking and insurance relationships, risk management, compliance, and internal controls. The CFO will translate financial and operational data into actionable business insights and help leadership make informed decisions that drive sustainable growth and profitability.In addition to financial leadership, the CFO will provide executive oversight for Human Resources, Order Entry, and Site Furnishing functions, ensuring these areas are aligned with the company’s financial, operational, and strategic objectives. The CFO will work closely with the President, executive leadership, sales, operations, production, and other departments to strengthen cross-functional performance and accountability.The ideal candidate is a strategic financial leader with strong manufacturing experience who can balance long-term vision with hands-on financial management. This individual must possess strong analytical, leadership, communication, and decision-making skills and have the ability to identify opportunities, manage risk, improve processes, and drive financial performance throughout the organization.Key Responsibilities:Executive Financial Leadership & Strategy:Serve as the company’s senior financial leader and strategic business partner to the President and executive leadership team.Develop and execute the company’s overall financial strategy in alignment with business objectives and long-term growth plans.Provide financial guidance, analysis, and recommendations to support strategic and operational decision-making.Lead long-term financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and financial modeling.Establish and monitor financial goals, key performance indicators, and business performance metrics.Identify financial trends, risks, opportunities, and potential areas for improvement and communicate recommendations to executive leadership.Evaluate strategic business opportunities, investments, capital expenditures, and other initiatives from a financial perspective.Support initiatives designed to improve profitability, efficiency, cash flow, and overall company performance.Promote financial accountability and sound business decision-making throughout the organization.Accounting & Financial Reporting:Provide executive oversight of all accounting and finance functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, cash management, cost accounting, and financial reporting.Ensure accurate and timely month-end, quarter-end, and year-end financial close processes.Oversee preparation and review of monthly financial statements, management reports, and financial analysis.Analyze financial results, variances, trends, and key performance indicators and communicate meaningful business insights to leadership.Establish, maintain, and continuously improve accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.Ensure the integrity, accuracy, and confidentiality of the company’s financial information.Oversee annual audits and coordinate with external accounting, tax, and financial professionals as needed.Ensure financial reporting supports both operational management and long-term strategic planning.Executive & Board Reporting:Prepare and oversee financial materials and presentations for the Board of Directors and executive leadership.Provide regular financial updates regarding company performance, profitability, cash flow, forecasts, and key business trends.Translate complex financial information into clear, actionable business recommendations.Ensure the President, executive leadership team, and Board have accurate, timely, and relevant financial information to support decision-making.Support strategic discussions and business planning through financial analysis and modeling.Cash, Capital & Banking Management:Provide executive oversight of cash flow, working capital, liquidity, and capital management.Manage and maintain relationships with banks, lenders, and other financial institutions.Oversee banking activities, credit facilities, financing arrangements, and other financial services.Evaluate capital requirements and financing opportunities and provide recommendations to executive leadership.Monitor accounts receivable, inventory, accounts payable, and other working capital components to optimize cash flow.Develop strategies to strengthen the company’s financial position and maximize the effective use of capital.Provide financial oversight for capital expenditures and significant business investments.Insurance & Enterprise Risk Management:Manage relationships with insurance brokers, carriers, and other insurance providers.Provide executive oversight of company insurance programs, renewals, coverage reviews, and related financial considerations.Identify, assess, and monitor financial and operational risks affecting the organization.Partner with executive leadership to develop strategies to mitigate business, financial, and operational risks.Ensure appropriate insurance coverage is maintained for company assets, operations, employees, and other areas of exposure.Monitor risk management practices and recommend improvements as business needs change.Compliance, Controls & Governance:Ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards, financial regulations, tax requirements, and company policies.Maintain strong internal controls and financial procedures designed to protect company assets and ensure accurate reporting.Oversee required financial reporting, audits, tax-related activities, and regulatory requirements.Monitor compliance risks and ensure appropriate corrective actions are implemented when necessary.Maintain accurate, confidential, and well-organized financial records and documentation.Promote a culture of financial accountability, ethical business practices, and sound governance.Organizational & Department Leadership:Provide executive leadership and oversight for the Human Resources function, including HR policies, benefits, payroll coordination, compliance, and employee-related processes.Oversee the Order Entry function to ensure accurate and timely processing of customer orders and effective coordination with sales, operations, and accounting.Provide executive oversight of the Site Furnishing function, supporting financial performance, operational coordination, and business objectives.Establish appropriate processes, accountability, performance expectations, and financial controls within departments under the CFO’s oversight.Promote strong cross-functional communication and collaboration between finance, operations, sales, production, HR, and other departments.Develop and support leaders throughout the organization to strengthen accountability, performance, and business results.Operational & Business Partnership:Partner with operations and production leadership to improve productivity, efficiency, cost management, and profitability.Provide financial insight into manufacturing performance, inventory, job costing, labor costs, overhead, and production variances.Identify opportunities to improve processes, reduce costs, increase efficiency, and strengthen profitability.Support strategic initiatives, new business opportunities, product development, and capital investments.Participate in cross-functional projects and company-wide initiatives that support growth and operational excellence.Develop and implement processes and procedures that improve efficiency, accountability, and financial performance.Maintain a strong understanding of the company’s products, services, customers, markets, and overall business model.Specific Tasks:Lead the overall financial planning, forecasting, and reporting process.Oversee the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end financial close.Review and approve monthly financial statements and management reports.Provide financial analysis and recommendations to the President and executive leadership team.Prepare and present financial information for Board of Directors meetings.Manage banking, lending, cash management, and financial institution relationships.Oversee insurance broker and carrier relationships.Direct financial compliance, audits, tax-related activities, and regulatory requirements.Develop, monitor, and communicate annual budgets and long-term financial forecasts.Monitor profitability, cash flow, working capital, and key financial and operational performance indicators.Evaluate capital expenditures, investments, and strategic business opportunities.Identify opportunities to improve financial processes, controls, and operational efficiency.Provide financial oversight and support for major business initiatives and organizational changes.Oversee HR, Order Entry, and Site Furnishing functions.Support succession planning, organizational development, and leadership initiatives as appropriate.Maintain confidentiality of sensitive financial, employee, customer, and company The CFO will work collaboratively with operations, HR, and executive leadership to promote a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement throughout the organization.QualificationsRequired Experience and Skills:Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.Minimum of 10 years of progressive accounting and finance experience, including significant leadership responsibility.Demonstrated experience serving as a Controller, CFO, VP of Finance, or other senior financial leadership position.Prior experience supporting a manufacturing or industrial organization.Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, financial analysis, and financial planning.Proven experience leading month-end and year-end close processes.Experience preparing financial reports and presentations for executive leadership and/or Boards of Directors.Strong understanding of financial controls, compliance, risk management, and corporate governance.Experience managing banking, lending, cash management, and insurance relationships.Strong understanding of manufacturing cost accounting, inventory, job costing, and variance analysis.Proven ability to develop and execute financial strategies that support profitability and sustainable growth.Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.Demonstrated ability to lead teams and oversee multiple business functions.Excellent executive-level communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.Strong proficiency with accounting/ERP systems and Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound financial and business judgment.Demonstrated ability to work effectively with the President, executive leadership, Board of Directors, and employees at all levels of the organization.Preferred Qualifications:CPA certification or other relevant professional designation.MBA or advanced degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field.Experience as a CFO or senior finance executive in a manufacturing organization.Experience with multi-site or high-volume manufacturing operations.Experience with strategic planning, financial modeling, mergers/acquisitions, or business expansion.Advanced knowledge of manufacturing cost accounting, inventory management, job costing, and operational finance.Experience managing banking, lending, and insurance relationships at the executive level.Experience with Board reporting and executive-level financial presentations.Advanced data analysis, financial modeling, and reporting skills.Strong knowledge of ERP and financial reporting systems.Demonstrated success improving profitability, cash flow, operational efficiency, and financial controls.Wausau Tile is an Equal Opportunity Employer and an Affirmative Action Plan Employer.
