Student Media Coordinator

The Student Media Coordinator provides day-to-day supervision, guidance and support to the student employees and volunteers of Student Media. Under the direction of the Center for Engagement’s Program Manager for Student Government and Student Media and, working closely with the student staff and volunteers in Student Media, the Student Media Coordinator will ensure that students are provided a meaningful developmental and educational experience through their involvement with Student Media while ensuring adherence to professional journalistic and broadcast standards and compliance with FCC regulations.

This pivotal position coordinates the event planning, production, and programming efforts of the KSUA Radio, and the UAF Sun Star and the UAF Concert Board. The ideal candidate brings a strong combination of skills including technical production capabilities and problem-solving to mentor student leaders through the daily challenges of independent media management and live event execution. Dedicated to student service, this position champions free expression and collaborative teamwork across the University of Alaska Fairbanks.

As the mentor for UAF’s student media voices, you will support and guide the execution of live and recorded radio broadcasts for KSUA Radio, student journalism efforts with the UAF Sun Star and concert productions for the UAF Concert Board. This role requires an adaptable problem solver who can calmly navigate sudden technical glitches, tight print deadlines, and shifting media landscapes. By supporting the UAF Sun Star and KSUA Radio, you will perform a vital service to the Fairbanks community by empowering students to tell their own stories.

The ideal candidate possesses the ability to learn and teach others. They will demonstrate multi-disciplinary adaptability, they don’t need to be an expert in everything, but comfortable wearing multiple hats in a single afternoon. The Sun Star: Understanding digital layout, media law (libel/copyright), and basic investigative journalism workflow. KSUA 91.5 FM: Basic knowledge of FCC compliance, radio automation software, and audio engineering basics. UAF Concert Board: Familiarity with the live music industry, artist contracts, rider negotiations, and event safety.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in a related field and three years relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Master's degree preferred.

Position Details:

This position is located in Fairbanks. This is a full-time, term-funded, exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and  full employee benefits package . UA provides a generous compensation package that includes retirement options, annual leave, 12 paid holidays per year, tuition waivers for employees and family members, and affordable medical, dental and vision care coverage. New hires will be placed on the  UA Staff Salary Schedule , Grade 79, based on education and experience.
