The unit primarily cares for postoperative patients. Staff must be comfortable with flexible nurse-to-patient ratios. Nursing staff helps achieve specific post-operative milestones for discharge. No chemotherapy or biotherapy is administered on this unit. Responsibilities include managing ports, administering medications, and patient education. Staff may need to float to sister facilities based on patient care needs. Nurses will engage with interdisciplinary support teams. Nursing care must be tailored to meet the specific requirements of oncology patients. New technology will be integrated into everyday workflows during orientation. Opportunities for professional development and support for knowledge gaps will be provided.
