Job Summary

You will be responsible for the 24-hour planning and coordination of staffing, supplies, and patient care activities, fostering a high-quality clinical environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide 24-hour oversight for planning and coordinating staffing, supplies, and patient care activities within assigned departments.
• Manage departmental financial performance, including budget setting and promoting cost-effective resource utilization.
• Coordinate nursing service orientation for new staff, monitor skill development, and evaluate preceptors.
• Make patient care assignments based on patient needs, assignment complexity, and staff qualifications.
• Review and recommend changes to staffing standards based on utilization studies.
• Revise, implement, and administer nursing services and department-specific policies, procedures, and standards.
• Collaborate with healthcare providers for patient care conferences and facilitate quality improvement activities.
• Assist in staff training and career development, partnering with Education and HR for ongoing education and competency validation.
• Update job descriptions and performance standards, conduct staff evaluations, and recommend appropriate actions.
• Communicate administrative concerns and unresolved employee/patient issues to the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO).
• Oversee and approve staffing schedules and employee leave requests.
• Effectively delegate assignments to appropriate staff members.
• Coordinate Nursing Service activities with other departments and divisions.
• Set departmental goals and meeting agendas.
• Oversee supply and equipment ordering for the department.
• Identify departmental needs for personnel, equipment, supplies, and training for program planning with Nursing Service Administration.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory agency standards (e.g., Joint Commission, CMS).
• Assume the role of Acting Chief Nursing Officer in the CNO's absence, coordinating overall Nursing Service activities and reporting to the Hospital Administrator.
• Respond rapidly and effectively in hospital emergency events.
• Act as a clinical resource, capable of stepping into patient care roles as required.

Required Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.
• Minimum of 1 year of supervisory experience in a healthcare setting.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification, to be obtained within 6
