Pricing & Risk Analyst
Kin Insurance
Who we are Kin makes life simpler, more affordable, and better for homeowners — especially in the places where climate risks, rising costs, and outdated systems make it harder. We start with smarter homeowners insurance and expand to everything homeowners need to thrive.
Using data, technology, and thoughtful human support, we’re building products that are clear, fair, and help homeowners feel confident — so homeowners aren’t left behind when they need help most.
Founded in 2016, Kin is a remote-first employer with Kinfolk across more than 35 states. We serve customers in 14 states (and counting). Our disciplined growth, strong customer satisfaction, and focus on long-term sustainability fosters outstanding growth, attracts marquee investors, and earns recognition and accolades, including:
Forbes' America's Best Startup Employers (2026)
5000 Fastest-Growing Private Companies
Forbes’ Fintech 50 (2023-2026)
Most importantly, we’re building Kin to be a place where people do meaningful work with real impact — for our customers, our communities, and each other. We're excited to tell you more about how you can contribute to our rapid growth, strong unit economics, profitability, and excellent customer ratings. To learn more about how we work and what we’re building, visit kin. We're looking for a Pricing & Risk Analyst to help us find where Kin can grow profitably, state by state and segment by segment. This role sits on our Pricing and Risk Management team and focuses on state growth and segmentation. You'll work alongside state managers and business partners to turn policy, quote, and claims data into practical recommendations.
This is an entry-level role built for someone curious and detail-oriented who wants to learn how analytics shape real pricing and risk decisions. You'll use Databricks Genie, Claude Code, and approved MCP connections to explore data, automate recurring work, and spend more of your time on the questions that matter. Experienced Pricing and Risk colleagues will guide you as you build knowledge of insurance metrics, pricing, segmentation, and state performance. Own recurring state performance reporting on quote volume, quote-to-bind conversion, new business, premium, retention, and loss experience, and investigate what's driving changes in results
Analyze performance across geography, risk characteristics, coverage, and distribution channels to surface growth opportunities and segments that need closer review
Evaluate how proposed rate changes, underwriting rules, and shifts in business mix could affect growth and profitability
Use Databricks Genie to explore data, and Claude Code to write SQL queries, build analytical scripts, automate recurring reports, and document findings
Bring relevant data and business context into analytical workflows through approved MCP connections
Validate data, calculations, and AI-generated outputs; document sources and assumptions, and raise questions early when results look uncertain or inconsistent
Deliver clear charts and concise summaries for Pricing and Risk and partner teams, developing recommendations alongside experienced colleagues
Measure performance after pricing, underwriting, and product changes go live
You’ll use your skills and judgment to take ownership of meaningful work, improve how we operate, and help move Kin’s mission forward. Along the way, you’ll deliver outcomes that make a real difference for both Kinfolk and the homeowners we serve.
By the end of your first year, you should feel confident in your role, trusted as an owner, and proud of the progress you’ve helped make.
State performance analyses arrive accurate and on time, and the team trusts your explanation of what changed and why
The team is acting on profitable state growth opportunities that your analysis helped bring to light
You're independently handling analyses that once required close guidance

~ Bachelor's degree in economics, statistics, mathematics, actuarial science, finance, business, computer science, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
~ Foundational SQL skills and proficiency with Excel or similar spreadsheet tools

~ Hands-on experience using AI for analytical or coding tasks (academic or personal projects count), and a willingness to regularly use and build proficiency in Claude Code, Databricks Genie, and MCP-enabled workflows
