Job Description: The LXS Technical Writing Program Manager's key tasks include, but are not limited to, the following: PROGRAM STRATEGY AND GOVERNANCE
- Champion and lead the strategic implementation and maintenance of technical documentation programs or systems.
- Plan and strategize, document, and optimize the end-to-end documentation lifecycle process
- Partner with internal leadership or the clients to implement projects and other process-improvement related initiatives.
- Serve as the central point of contact and primary liaison for technical documentation.
- Lead program and project-level risk identification, analysis, and mitigation planning.
- Implement a robust, multi-level communication plan to keep all stakeholders (internal stakeholders and clients) informed of the program or project's status, progress, successes, and challenges.
- Lead formal business reviews with key stakeholders and executive leadership.
- Define, track, and maintain KPI or SLA attainment for their assigned function.
- Act as the program's thought leader by staying abreast of industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in technical communication, content strategy, and program management.
- Hire, train, mentor, and evaluate staff to ensure seamless execution of technical writing / cross-functional initiatives.
- Ensure the technical writing function is staffed appropriately and that team members have the necessary training and tools to meet the program's evolving objectives.
- Implementing technology-enabled documentation solutions that reflect a learner or user-centered philosophy.
- Maintaining client relationships.
- Development of team members (technical writers and senior technical writers).
- Generating or contributing to regular reports or business reviews.
- 3-5 years creating and managing production-level documentation, ensuring high-quality, clear, and concise content for both technical and non-technical audiences
- Designing and implementing content strategies, information architecture, and documentation workflows
- Analyzing and understanding different target audiences, tailoring content to their specific needs and technical knowledge
- 1-3 years managing, mentoring, and coaching teams of technical writers with diverse skill and experience levels
- 1-3 years setting the strategy and direction for technical documentation efforts, ensuring they align with overall business and product goals
- Reporting and analyzing programmatic risks throughout a project lifecycle
- Defining and tracking key metrics and reporting on the progress and success of documentation initiatives to stakeholders and leadership
- Technology literate; can easily work with a wide array of technical communication tools (e.g., static site generators, content management systems, and publishing software)
- Understanding of functionalities of project management frameworks (e.g., Agile, Scrum, and Kanban)
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills to articulate complex technical ideas, present strategies, and give clear, actionable feedback
- Demonstrated ability to make decisions by using logic to identify key facts, explore alternatives and propose quality solutions.
- Demonstrated experience working with diverse internal stakeholders at all levels, including engineering, product, operations, and marketing.
- Experienced in developing strategy, internal and external processes related to technical documentation.
- Ability to foster a positive and productive work environment, with ability to lead, build teams, and motivate staff.
- Strong organizational and interpersonal management skills.
- Ability to manage time effectively and efficiently..
- Self-motivated and directed with keen attention to detail.
