Summary You will serve as a Welder for the National Park Service at the Historic Preservation Training Center performing hands-on preservation and restoration work. You may be required to work on-call, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime and shift work. You may be required to travel overnight away from home up to 28 nights per month. You must obtain a government charge card for travel purposes. Salary Range: $34.71 (step 1) to $40.55 (step 5) Responsibilities Some of the major duties you will perform include but are not limited to the following: Welding various metals of similar and dissimilar properties using oxy/acetylene and/or electric welders, Tungsten Inert Gas Systems (T.I.G.) Shield Metal Arc Welding (S.M.A.W.). Performing hands-on preservation/restoration work utilizing skills such as welding, pattern making, rubber mold making, masonry, sandblasting, painting, metal patina processes, machining, forging, heaving equipment operator, carpentry, and rigging to repair bronze statuary, monuments, historic fences and plaques. Participating in all phases of monument preservation and restoration by performing various carpentry and masonry skills. Requirements Conditions of Employment Must provide proof of U.S. citizenship. Physical Demands: Incumbent's duties require physical effort such as climbing, crawling, working in extreme heat or cold, working at heights, bending, kneeling, and occasionally lifting up to 100lbs. Incumbent's duties require walking, standing, bending, lifting, crawling, climbing, stretching, pushing, pulling, and kneeling. Work requires very heavy physical effort such as frequently lifting and/or moving objects up to 100lbs. Required to climb ladders, scaffolding, remain in strained or cramped positions for extended periods and work on slopes and stairs. Work in extreme heat or cold. Working Conditions: Work will be performed primarily outdoors on a year-round basis. Exposure to extreme heat or cold temperatures is common. Work may be performed on uneven terrain, at heights greater than six feet, presenting a high degree of exposure to potential injury and equipment damage. All appropriate safety guidelines will be observed by incumbent when working under such conditions. Incumbent must wear protective clothing and equipment such as hard hats, respirators, safety shoes, safety glasses, face shields, gloves, etc. Incumbent is exposed to poison ivy, biting insects, ticks, occasional reptiles, dust, moving heavy equipment, noise, fumes, and flammable materials.
