Communications Director

The Communications Director is responsible for managing and growing MGC's public presence and ensuring that our members, partners, and the broader genealogical community stay informed and engaged.

Responsibilities

• Manage MGC's social media accounts (Facebook, LinkedIn, and Instagram), developing and scheduling content that reflects the organization's mission and engages our community
• Oversee MGC's email outreach, including member newsletters and announcements
• Draft and distribute press releases, public statements, and other external communications as needed
• Maintain a consistent and accessible organizational voice across all platforms
• Collaborate with Board members to communicate advocacy updates, event announcements, and organizational news
• Support the development of MGC's public-facing Web presence

Qualifications

• Strong writing and editing skills with an eye for clear, accessible communication
• Experience with social media management and email marketing platforms (e.g. Mailchimp, Constant Contact) preferred
• Familiarity with Massachusetts or New England genealogical community a plus
• Creative, self-motivated, and comfortable working independently in a remote volunteer environment
• No prior nonprofit experience required: just enthusiasm for the mission and a willingness to roll up your sleeves

Logistics

• Entirely volunteer; no compensation
• Primarily remote; Board meetings held 5-6 times a year via Zoom
• Expected start date: July 2026
