POSITION DETAILS This position works 40 weeks per year, 5 days per week at 7 hours per day and follows the EVSC School Board of Trustees approved school calendar. SALARY SALARY: 0 $14.07 1 $14.61 2 $15.15 3 $15.69 4 $16.23 5 $16.77 6 $17.31 7 $17.85 8 $18.12 9 $18.39 10 $18.66 Annual, incremental pay increases are given for each year of at least 120 days of service with the EVSC in this role. BENEFITS EVSC offers four Anthem medical insurance plans. Full medical, dental and vision insurance are provided with this position. Employees may pay the additional cost to add family members. Click here to view the rates for each plan. If elected, insurance coverage begins the first of the month following the successful completion of a 20 working‑day probationary period. Employees enrolled in an EVSC medical insurance plan are eligible to use any of the three EVSCHealth & Wellness Centers. The health clinics provide primary care services, generic prescription medications, physicals, health screenings, and labs; all at no cost to the employee or covered family member. EVSC is proud to provide accumulated paid time off for: Sick Time Holidays Personal Business Days EVSC employees have access to the EVSC Wee Care Learning Centers. The Wee Care program provides a quality early learning experience for children as young as six weeks through age five at a special employee rate. This position will automatically be enrolled in the Public Employees' Retirement Fund (PERF) through the state of Indiana, which includes a defined benefit (Pension) as well as an Annuity Savings Account (ASA). Employees may also participate in a 403(b) Plan. Enrolling in the 403(b) plan allows employees to save for their retirement by making a pre‑tax salary deferral contributions to the Plan. Eligible employees may enroll in the EVSC group life insurance and long‑term disability plans. EVSC also offers a variety of voluntary insurance products through American Fidelity. EVSC offers a free Employee Assistance Program (EAP). It is a confidential, voluntary service that provides professional counseling and referral services designed to help employees and their family members with personal, job or family‑related matters. SUMMARY Responsible for the preparation of quality, nutritious, safe meals in accordance with federal, state and local guidelines. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Prepares and maintains quality, nutritious food Forecasts amounts of food needed and keeps serving line supplied in a timely manner Proactively reacts to changes in food production needs Uses preparation equipment in a safe and efficient manner Cleans and maintains preparation equipment Understands basic meal planning principles Maintains accurate food production records Receives food and supply orders according to approved guidelines Participates in good inventory control Aids manager in the ordering of food and supplies Assists in the training of serving and food preparation food service assistants JOB SPECIFIC SKILLS AND ABILITIES Ability to establish and maintain friendly effective working relationships with co‑workers, staff, students and their parents. Ability to perform duties and communicate in a noisy environment. Exhibits good organizational skills. Maintains appropriate levels of personal hygiene and sanitation. QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Two to three years previous quantity food preparation experience. Ability to accurately add, subtract, multiply and divide in relation to forecasting and recipe adjustment. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS Successful completion of the ServSafe Food Protection Manager Certification Course. Successful completion of the EVSC Cook's Training class. Member of the School Nutrition Association is highly desirable. LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one‑on‑one and small group situations to students, parents and school staff. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide accurately. Ability to perform these operations using units of money, weight and volume measurement. REASONING ABILITY Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but basic written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations. PHYSICAL DEMANDS While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to talk, hear, walk and stand for long periods. The employee will frequently bend or twist at the neck and trunk while performing the duties of this job. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee continuously uses hand strength to grasp tools. The employee often repeats the same hand/arm/finger motion many times as in operating a cash register. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds such as milk crates, frozen foods, canned food, etc. Specific vision abilities required by this job include depth perception, close, color, distance and peripheral vision. WORK ENVIRONMENT Requires prolonged standing. Requires stooping, bending or reaching. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Must work in and around fumes and odors. Must work with electrical and gas appliances.
