We’re seeking a Principal Electrical Motor Design Engineer who wants to be involved in the entire product lifecycle, from concept development and electromagnetic design through manufacturing support, testing, validation, and field performance. The Opportunity: You’ll join a growing electrification engineering organization focused on advanced electric drive technologies and rotating equipment development. Working alongside experienced mechanical, manufacturing, testing, and electrical engineering professionals, you’ll help design and develop highly engineered motor and generator platforms used in some of the world’s most demanding environments. Engineers are drawn to this opportunity because it offers: Ownership across the entire product lifecycle Direct interaction with manufacturing and testing teams Exposure to large-scale motors, generators, and rotating equipment A highly collaborative, low-ego engineering culture Strong technical leadership and mentorship Meaningful influence on product design and engineering decisions Variety of work spanning design, manufacturing support, testing, troubleshooting, and product improvement Long-term technical and leadership growth opportunities What You’ll Do: Lead electromagnetic design of large AC motors and generators Define performance requirements including torque, efficiency, durability, and thermal performance Develop stator, rotor, winding, insulation, and cooling system designs Support prototype development and product validation Partner closely with manufacturing and testing organizations Analyze performance data and drive continuous improvement initiatives Troubleshoot manufacturing and field‑related issues Support product testing and validation activities Develop technical documentation and engineering specifications Provide technical leadership on complex development programs What We’re Looking For: BS in Electrical Engineering or related discipline Experience designing large AC motors, generators, or rotating equipment Strong understanding of electromagnetic design principles Experience supporting manufacturing and testing activities Knowledge of insulation systems, thermal performance, and electric machine optimization Experience with Maxwell, JMAG, Motor‑CAD, ANSYS, or similar software platforms Strong communication and technical leadership skills Backgrounds That Translate Well: Rail / Locomotive Large Industrial Motors Generator Manufacturing Heavy Rotating Equipment Mining Equipment Industrial Electrification Power Generation Equipment Paper & Pulp Motor Applications What separates top candidates: The strongest candidates have personally: Designed motors or generators Released products to manufacturing Worked directly with manufacturing teams Supported testing and validation efforts Solved product performance issues Supported root cause investigations Owned products throughout the full development lifecycle We’re looking for engineers who have built products, not simply analyzed them.
