Certified Oncology Data Specialist (ODS) HJF is seeking a Certified Oncology Data Specialist (ODS) to support the Murtha Cancer Center Research Program (MCCRP). This position is located at 6720A Rockledge Drive in Bethesda, MD. The role involves clinical data collection operations in support of research activities, data abstraction/entry, and quality control. The John P. Murtha Cancer Center located at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, Bethesda, Maryland is a modern, patient‑centric, tri‑service military healthcare facility. It houses a multidisciplinary team of oncologists and researchers dedicated to high‑quality cancer care and research. The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine (HJF) is a nonprofit organization that supports military medical research and innovation. HJF administers, manages, and supports scientific programs benefiting armed forces and civilians. Responsibilities Supervise the data abstraction team’s collection of clinical research data for multiple pan‑cancer projects within MCCRP. Perform electronic medical record retrieval from DoD EHR systems, de‑identify data per IRB approved protocols. Apply knowledge of FORDS, ICD‑9/ICD‑10, SEER staging, and AJCC TNM. Abstract and enter demographics, pathologic, treatment, outcome, and clinical assessment data into the Data Tracking System (DTS) case‑report forms (CRFs) ensuring timeliness, consistency, and accuracy. Complete data input, error analysis, correction, resolution, and submission; maintain records and correspondence with the clinical research team. Ensure the integrity and accuracy of information in the data tracking system. Identify opportunities for developing and implementing data standards and SOPs, troubleshoot data collection problems, and track resolution. Learn and understand diverse databases, projects, and clinical terminology. Familiarity with pharmaceutical generic/trade names and chemotherapy/radiation therapy regimens. Collaborate with internal and external research team members as a resource for the bioinformatics and technical team. Maintain clinical quality measurement knowledge through self‑development and stay current with specification changes. Act as an expert and provide education to other team members as needed. Perform regular self‑quality control and team quality control for abstracted data before submission. Participate in local or national cancer‑related educational activities and webinars per ACS‑CoC standards; manage workflow to meet production levels and avoid backlogs. Perform other duties as assigned or directed by the supervisor, including required training. Qualifications Education and Experience Bachelor’s Degree required. Minimum of 3–5 years as a Certified Oncology Data Specialist (ODS). Licenses and Certifications Current certification as an Oncology Data Specialist (ODS) required. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of FORDS, ICD‑9/ICD‑10, SEER staging, and AJCC TNM. Knowledge of cancer definition, etiology, and treatment, including differences between benign and malignant disease, grading, specific diagnoses, treatments, and spread. Familiarity with pharmaceutical generic/trade names and chemotherapy/radiation therapy regimens. Preferred prior supervisory experience. Ability to obtain and maintain a T3 Secret Clearance. Work Environment Primarily an office setting. Compensation Annual salary range $77,600 – $120,000 (actual salary based on experience, education, etc.).
