Transmission Line Engineer

Transmission Line Engineer Leidos is seeking a Transmission Line Engineer to work as part of a dynamic team in a fast‑paced environment, solving challenging problems related to electric transmission. The role involves contributing to design projects for high‑voltage overhead and underground systems for major utilities across the United States. Responsibilities Serve as a key contributor on electric transmission line design projects, applying NESC, ASCE, ACI, and other applicable standards. Perform engineering analyses, prepare bidding documents, draft plans and specifications, and develop material procurement and construction documents. Execute independent technical tasks using tools such as PLS‑CADD and PLS‑POLE while contributing to the quality control process. Collaborate with a multi‑person Leidos team and support clients, project planning, environmental, permitting, and construction management personnel. Contribute to the team’s continuous improvement goals by learning and applying new technical tools, AI, and automation platforms. Actively communicate and coordinate project progress with the Project Manager to ensure awareness of and adherence to project schedule and budget. Maintain strong technical proficiency in industry‑standard software and Leidos design processes. Execute technical design and engineering tasks related to high‑voltage transmission lines, ensuring compliance with all applicable codes and standards. Prepare and review technical drawings, specifications, and calculations under the guidance of Lead Engineers or Project Managers. Perform engineering analyses, including PLS‑CADD modeling and structure loading calculations. Required Education & Experience Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Mechanical, or related engineering, with two or more years of relevant experience in the design of electric utility transmission systems. Experience using PLS‑CADD and PLS‑POLE. Ability to work effectively in a team environment and independently. Strong interpersonal and written communication abilities, focusing on collaboration across client and project teams. Flexibility to work in client offices and accommodate periodic travel if required. Desired Experience Experience with TOWER. EIT or PE certification. Experience with LPILE or FAD, Mathcad, AutoCAD or MicroStation, and Geographic Information Systems (GIS). Work Locations Ideal candidates are located in Michigan, Ohio, West Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, or New Jersey and will work hybrid schedules. Fully remote positions are available for qualified candidates. Relocation assistance is provided to those able to relocate within a commutable distance to Walled Lake, MI or Cranberry Township, PA. Pay and Benefits Pay Range: $59,150.00 – $106,925.00. Compensation is based on responsibilities, education, experience, skills, and other factors.
