Family Practice Physician
Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe
Overview: The physician is a professional healthcare provider responsible for delivering high-quality, comprehensive care to all patients of the Lower Elwha Health Clinic. Working in close collaboration with our Integrative Health Care Team, the physician must be knowledgeable in disease prevention, nutrition, diagnosis, and treatment. The physician will provide medical services during established weekday clinic hours, excluding Federal holidays.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Current WA State MD or DO medical license
• Current ACLS and BLS certification
• Knowledge and competence in family medicine, minor orthopedics and minor surgical procedures
• Ability to work successfully and respectfully with other health care professionals, patients and community
• Demonstrated ability to be a team player
• Knowledge of cultural sensitivity issues and ability to work with entire patient population
• Ability to handle conflict and crisis in a professional manner
• Demonstrated oral and written communication skills
• Professional manner and appearance in all work activities
• Documentation of maintenance of CME requirements OTHER DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Experience working within a Native American or Tribal health care system
• Working knowledge of cultural sensitivity issues involved in tribal health care RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Provides comprehensive health care to all patients of the Lower Elwha Health Clinic
• The physician shall represent the Tribe's interests and maintain good relationships with patients of the clinic, the Tribe, and with the community at large.
• The physician shall provide quality primary care medical and health care services to patients at the Tribe's Lower Elwha Health Clinic.
• Provide direct primary care to patients, including office-based medical and minor surgical services, diagnosis, treatment, and referral when appropriate.
• Obtain and interpret diagnostic tests.
• Primary responsibility will be patient care with limited administrative duties.
• Shall be an active participant in continuing quality improvement processes.
• Document patient encounters in the electronic health record (EHR) in a timely and accurate manner.
• Adheres to CHS/managed care guidelines and priorities.
• Attend clinic staff meetings and health department meetings as required.
• Promotion of and participation in quality assurance activities.
• Adhere to all approved policies and procedures of the clinic and the tribal organization.
• Occasionally participate in policy development, committees and projects as assigned by the Medical Director/Health Services Director.
• Work in coordinated manner with other providers of the clinic and the health department to provide comprehensive high-quality care to all patients. Immunization Requirements:
• All healthcare providers must be fully immunized against vaccine-preventable disease consistent with current IHS and CDC recommendations for health care workers.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
• Requires prolonged standing with occasional sitting, stooping and bending
• Use of basic office equipment such as computers and clinical equipment WORKING CONDITIONS:
• Work is performed in a primary care outpatient clinic environment
• Involves extensive interpersonal contact with staff and patients
• Full time, 40 hours per week
• Flexible shifts to include possible evening hours
As with all positions of the Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe this position is Indian Preference in hiring, in Accordance with P.L. 93-638.
