Advanced Practice Provider - Transplant (Inpatient) - Chicago

Inpatient Transplant Advanced Practice Provider (APP) – Overview Location: Chicago, Illinois – Rush University Medical Center, a nationally recognized academic medical center. This inpatient APP covers all transplant programs (cadaveric kidney, living donor kidney, liver, and pancreas) and supports residents and attendings across the full continuum of care, from evaluation and surgery through recovery and long‑term follow‑up. Responsibilities Maintain consistent availability for providers to cover calls, labs, and medications. Navigate urgent concerns and evaluations for admission. Assist transplant nurses with medical decisions during admission. Maintain immunosuppression and provide hospital care for all transplant patients. Develop and implement ongoing care plans for all transplant patients. Provide education to Rush surgical residents on the transplant rotation. Develop discharge summaries for all patients admitted to the unit. Coordinate discharge care (home health, PT/OT, medication reconciliation, clinic follow‑up). Input pre‑ and post‑transplant orders for medications and diagnostic studies. Participate in weekly meetings regarding transplant candidate selection and quality improvement. Preferred Qualifications Previous advanced practice provider experience in organ transplant or a related specialty (preferred, not required). Relevant RN experience may be considered. APRNs require acute care certification. Requirements Nurse Practitioner Current licensure in Illinois as a Registered Professional Nurse and Advanced Practice Nurse, or eligible to obtain licensure through the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR). Master of Science in Nursing or Doctorate of Nursing Practice with an appropriate clinical specialty. Current certification by the American Nurse Credentialing Center (ANCC) or American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP). CPR and ACLS certifications. Physician Assistant Current licensure in Illinois as a Physician Assistant/Associate, or eligible to obtain licensure through the IDFPR. Successful completion of an accredited Physician Assistant/Associate Program. Current certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants. CPR and ACLS certifications. Benefits and Compensation Pay Range: $124,610 – $175,000 In addition to base pay, the position offers a comprehensive benefits package and additional incentive programs including premium pay rates, sign‑on bonuses, relocation allowances, and other compensation as applicable.
