Director Of Continuing Professional Education And Risk ManagementNYC Health + Hospitals is the largest public health care system in the United States. Every employee takes a person-centered approach that exemplifies the ICARE values (Integrity, Compassion, Accountability, Respect, and Excellence) through empathic communication and partnerships between all persons.Work Shifts9:00 A.M – 5:00 P.MDuties & ResponsibilitiesThe Director of Continuing Professional Education (CPE) and Risk Management serves in a dual leadership role, providing strategic direction, oversight, and integration of system-wide continuing professional education and partnering with executive leadership on risk management initiatives across NYC Health + Hospitals. Reporting to the Assistant Vice President of Risk Management and Continuing Professional Education, the Director is responsible for the evaluation and redesign of enterprise-wide programs that promote patient safety, regulatory compliance, workforce competency, and continuous organizational learning. The Director collaborates closely with senior leadership, including Risk Management, Information Technology, Quality, and clinical operations, to ensure the effective management and optimization of the Electronic Occurrence Reporting System (EORS) and associated platforms (e.g., VOICE, HighMarks CE). This role provides oversight of system functionality, data integrity, user access governance, and real-time surveillance of adverse events and organizational risk indicators. As a senior nurse leader for the CPE program, the Director ensures the sustainability and expansion of accredited continuing education programs—including Continuing Medical Education, Nursing, Creative Arts Therapy, Social Work, and Psychology—while maintaining compliance with accrediting bodies and regulatory standards. The Director establishes system-wide standards, policies, and workflows that align educational programming with organizational priorities in patient safety, quality improvement, and risk reduction.SUMMARY OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Oversee optimization and functionality of VOICE and HighMarks CE platforms, including system enhancements and module development (e.g., Root Cause Analysis, Risk Register).Collaborate with IT to resolve system issues and implement improvements.Establish governance for user access, system configuration, and data integrity.Ensure availability of standard and ad hoc regulatory reports for site surveys and audits.Directs and oversee accredited continuing education programs across disciplines.Maintains organizational sponsorships and ensure compliance with accrediting bodies' standards.Establishes policies, procedures, and workflows for CE program development, application review, credit issuance, and record retention.Expands and pursues additional sponsorship opportunities to meet evolving organizational needs.Identifies organizational risk through data analysis of good catches/near misses, incidents, complaint.The goal is to identify trends, contributing factors and root causes.Manages union and non-union CPE employeesProvides guidance to hospital medical staff, nurse, therapy, psychologists and social work leads as they plan educational activities.Content review of the proposed activity or its related materials must promote improvement or quality in healthcare.Maintains proficiency and working knowledge of changes in sponsor's requirement to maintain provider status.Builds and implements guidelines to manage the workflow of continuing education process for course approval.Minimum Qualifications1. Master's degree from an accredited college or university in Risk Management, Health Administration, Business Administration or in a related health care specialization, and three (3) years of experience in risk management, control, and prevention, leading and implementing quality and risk management programs, managing and analyzing risk data, and performing other functions related to risk management in a hospital or a health care setting, one (1) year of which must have been in a responsible administrative, managerial or supervisory capacity; or 2. Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in fields, as described in "1" above, and four (4) years of risk management experience, as described in "1" above, two (2) years of which must have been in a responsible administrative, managerial or supervisory capacity; or 3. Bachelor's degree in the disciplines as described in "1" above; and two (2) years of clinical, patient care or equivalent experience in a hospital or health care setting, plus two (2) years of related experience, as listed in "1" above, one (1) year of which must have been in a responsible administrative, managerial or supervisory capacity; or 4. A satisfactory equivalent of education, training, and/or experience.
