PGDx by Labcorp is seeking a Medical Director - Pathologist to join our team in Baltimore, MD.

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 1st shift

Job Summary:

The Medical Director - Pathologist provides on-site medical leadership for the Baltimore laboratory and supports Labcorp Oncology precision oncology testing. The role includes clinical interpretation and sign-out of tissue- and blood-based oncology testing; tissue adequacy review and quality control for PGDx assays, Plasma Detect Genome, and future oncology assays; and medical oversight of assay development, validation, clinical studies, companion diagnostic programs, and product launches. The position supports clinical quality, turnaround time, operational scale, and growth, with a primary focus on minimal residual disease (MRD).

Job Responsibilities:

• Review, interpret, and sign out tissue- and blood-based precision oncology cases in a timely manner.
• Provide on-site medical coverage and medical oversight for the Baltimore laboratory and the PGDx testing portfolio, including Plasma Complete, Plasma Detect, elio tissue complete (ETC), and elio plasma focus (EPF).
• Perform tissue adequacy review and quality control for PGDx assays, OmniSeq INSIGHT, Plasma Detect Genome, and future oncology assays, including landmark tissue assessment for tumor-informed MRD testing.
• Provide pathology leadership for Plasma Detect Genome V2 development and launch, including tissue quality-control processes, clinical validation, evidence-generation studies, and operational readiness.
• Provide pathology consultation for challenging specimens, test selection, case triage, and medical or technical questions.
• Support assay development, verification, validation, product enhancement, and launch activities for precision oncology products.
• Provide pathology leadership for clinical studies, evidence-generation programs, companion diagnostic activities, and biopharma collaborations.
• Contribute to study design, data interpretation, abstracts, presentations, peer-reviewed publications, and scientific meetings.
• Support quality systems, SOP development and review, quality metrics, proficiency and competency activities, investigations, corrective and preventive actions, accreditation requirements, laboratory inspections, and regulatory compliance.
• Collaborate with Medical Affairs, R&D, bioinformatics, digital pathology, data science, Operations, Quality, Commercial, marketing, customer service, and clinical teams.
• Provide medical and scientific support for provider inquiries, field education, product positioning, medical messaging, launch readiness, customer engagement, molecular tumor boards, webinars, and clinical outreach.
• Build effective relationships with external physicians, investigators, customers, and strategic partners.
• Identify and implement improvements to tissue workflows, digital pathology processes, turnaround time, consistency, scalability, business continuity, and clinical quality.

Minimum Qualifications:

• MD or DO degree from an accredited institution
• Board certification in Anatomic Pathology by the American Board of Pathology
• Fellowship training in Molecular Genetic Pathology (MGP) or equivalent advanced molecular diagnostics training.
• 3 or more years years of post-training practice experience in anatomic pathology and/or molecular pathology.
• 3 or more years of experience practicing in a CLIA-certified, CAP-accredited high-complexity molecular diagnostics laboratory.
• 2 or more years of experience interpreting and reporting molecular oncology testing, including NGS-based genomic profiling, liquid biopsy, or related precision oncology assays.
• 2 or more years in development, verification, validation, or implementation of at least one clinical molecular oncology assay.

Preferred Qualifications:

• 3 or more years of experience practicing in oncology or precision oncology diagnostics organization.
• 3 or more years’ experience with solid-tumor NGS, comprehensive genomic profiling, liquid biopsy, MRD testing, digital pathology, histology quality control, or biomarker testing.
• 3 or more years’ experience with assay validation, clinical studies, evidence generation, companion diagnostics, biopharma-sponsored research, product launches, or commercial medical support.
• 2 or more years of experience with liquid biopsy, ctDNA, MRD, or blood-based oncology testing.
• 3 or more years of experience supporting assay development, validation, product launch, or clinical implementation of molecular diagnostics.
• 3 or more years of experience with advanced molecular platforms, including RNA sequencing, whole transcriptome sequencing, whole-exome sequencing, multi-omic analyses, biomarker discovery, or AI-enabled precision oncology applications.

Additional Job Standards:

• Eligibility for medical licensure in Maryland and New York and for all credentialing and privileging required for assigned clinical duties.
• Track record of scholarly contributions demonstrated through peer-reviewed publications, national presentations, clinical studies, translational research, guideline development, or evidence-generation programs. 5 or more peer-reviewed publications or equivalent scholarly contributions.
• Experience in laboratory, programmatic, or medical leadership experience within a molecular diagnostics, precision oncology, or pathology service.
• Demonstrated scholarship in an anatomic pathology subspecialty through research, publications, presentations, or collaborative projects
• Clinical expertise in anatomic pathology, molecular oncology, tissue assessment, and precision oncology testing.
• Knowledge of CLIA, CAP, federal, state, quality, accreditation, and compliance requirements applicable to assigned responsibilities.
• Ability to provide medical leadership across clinical operations, assay development, validation, studies, and product launches.
• Clear written and verbal communication with laboratory teams, clinicians, customers, investigators, and strategic partners.
• Strong collaboration, professionalism, accountability, sound judgment, and commitment to patient care and quality.
• Ability to manage priorities in a growing, high-complexity oncology laboratory while protecting turnaround time and business continuity.

Pay Range: $290k - $320k

All job offers will be based on a candidate’s skills and prior relevant experience, applicable degrees/certifications, as well as internal equity and market data. 

The position is also eligible for an annual bonus under the Labcorp Bonus Plan. Bonuses are payable based on corporate and/or business segment performance and are subject to individual performance modifiers. Compensation may also include discretionary short- and long-term incentive packages.
