Operating Room Technician

The Operating Room Technician assists in the preparation and support of surgical procedures by transporting and positioning patients, assembling and dismantling surgical equipment, and maintaining sterile fields. This role involves direct assistance to the surgeon during operations, including passing instruments, managing surgical counts, and caring for specimens. The technician also ensures efficient operating room turnover and adherence to infection control protocols. Strong technical skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced surgical environment are essential. Responsibilities:

• Assist in transportation and positioning of patients for surgery.
• Assemble and dismantle tables and instruments before and after procedures.
• Prepare patient and operating room for surgical procedures.
• Open sterile supplies and set up instruments for procedures.
• Complete skin preparation and draping of patients.
• Assist surgeon with gowning and gloving.
• Pass instruments and sutures to the surgeon during operations.
• Maintain correct count of instruments, sutures, and sponges throughout procedures.
• Apply dressings and bandages as needed.
• Identify, collect, and care for surgical specimens.
• Decontaminate instruments, supplies, and equipment according to policies.
• Handle and store instruments and supplies appropriately.
• Facilitate efficient turnover of the operating room between cases.
• Monitor and restock surgical supplies as necessary.

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Graduate of an accredited OR technician program, or equivalent military or on-the-job training with documented evidence.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Minimum of 6 months technical experience or specialized training in surgical technology.

• Certification as a Surgical Technologist through NBSTSA or NCCT.
• Experience working in a hospital operating room setting.

• Must be available to work scheduled shifts including one weeknight and two weekend days per month for on-call requirements.
• Work involves exposure to sterile environments and requires strict adherence to infection control protocols.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced surgical environment.

• Day shift from 08:00 to 18:30, four days per week with rotating days off throughout the week.
• Includes one weeknight and two weekend days per month on call.
