Position Details Licensed Practical Nurse Job Category: Staff & Executive - Healthcare - Nursing Department: UBHC - Outpatient Newark Position Status: Full Time Working Hours: 35 hours per week; Day shift FLSA: Nonexempt Grade: 215 Overview Rutgers University Behavioral Health Care (UBHC), established in 1971, offers a full continuum of evidence based behavioral health and addiction services for children, adolescents, adults, and seniors throughout New Jersey. UBHC has 1,060 experienced behavioral health professionals and support staff dedicated to treatment, prevention, and education. As one of the largest providers of behavioral health care in the country, it operates 15 sites throughout New Jersey, with a budget of $260 million. Services include inpatient, outpatient, partial hospitalization, screening, crisis stabilization, family/caregiver support, community outreach and case management, supportive housing, supported employment, prevention and consultation, employee assistance programs, and a licensed therapeutic school from preschool through high school. Specialty services include the New Jersey suicide prevention helpline and peer help lines for police, veterans, active military, teachers, mothers of special needs children, and child protective service workers. In FY2016, UBHC treated 16,199 consumers, had 24,502 admissions, and reached 19,441 individual callers through peer support. UBHC is also the primary mental health training resource for the New Jersey departments of Human Services, Children and Families, and Corrections, delivering 16,000 trainings each year. Responsibilities The primary purpose is to provide direct care, wellness counseling, perform treatments and operate within established guidelines, facilitate appointments, and liaise with Primary Care Providers. Observes and reports relevant behaviors, including responses to interpersonal, intrapersonal and extrapersonal events and ability to meet basic needs. Participates as needed in consumer treatment planning. Uses the UBHC Medical Database resource to help consumers schedule appointments for Primary Care, Eye and Dental as well as any follow-up appointments. Administers medication as prescribed by the physician or APN; prepares and administers routine medications per procedure. Checks all medical supplies including the unit First Aid Kit and ensures availability for use. Maintains a quiet, clean, organized work area with easily accessible materials and logical workflow. Participates in educational programs, including workshops, and incorporates content into performance and records trainings in the UBHC training record. Facilitates consumers' access to alternative benefits as appropriate. Certifications/Licenses Valid registration as a Licensed Practical Nurse in the State of New Jersey. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Demonstrated strong clinical nursing specialty, excellent communication skills, computer literacy with proficiency in word processing, and leadership abilities. Preferred Qualifications A minimum of one (1) year of experience providing medical services to mental health consumers. Community based experience.
