Responsibilities JOB SUMMARY: The RN's practice is guided by the ANA Standard for Professional Nurse and Code of Ethics. The RN has knowledge of professional nursing principles, practices, concepts, and procedures as applied to the care of the patient population served. The RN records patients' medical history and symptoms, helps perform diagnostic tests and analyze results, operates medical equipment, administers treatment and medications, and helps with patient follow-up and rehabilitation. The RN establishes a care plan or contributes to an existing plan, administers medication, manages IV lines, administers therapies and treatments, observes the patient, records observations, and consults with physicians and other healthcare clinicians. The RN teaches patients and families to manage illness, explains home care needs, diet, nutrition, exercise programs, and medication self‑administration. The RN provides direction to licensed practical nurses and nursing aides and delegates when appropriate. The RN supports efforts to advance clinical knowledge and skills, precepts new hire staff and students, and assists the staff and students to complete competency skills. The RN continues to enhance knowledge in nursing management and patient problems, and works to improve patients' experience and clinical outcomes, promoting a healthy work environment. Nursing practices are theory‑based and evidence‑based, utilizing a Shared Governance model for decision making. All RN staff with direct responsibility for stroke patients must have knowledge of stroke symptoms and warning signs, protocols and pathways to identify, evaluate, and manage stroke patients, NIHSS, Stroke Alert activation and protocol, stroke quality indicators, and available education materials and community resources. Possess the knowledge to collect health data systematically, prioritize data collection, analyze assessment data, and use nursing diagnoses to develop, implement, evaluate, and revise plans of care that are family centered and culturally relevant. Identify expected outcomes individualized to patients and their specific health problems; develop plans of care that are evidence‑based and family centered. Implement interventions in the plan of care, initiate treatments, medications, emergency and resuscitative measures based on policies and procedures. Provide care addressing physical, emotional, spiritual, and social‑cultural needs of patient and family. Evaluate patient progress toward outcomes, document observations, interventions, and monitoring data; evaluate quality and effectiveness of care. Evaluate nursing practice relative to professional practice standards and regulations; maintain current knowledge; evaluate quality and effectiveness systematically. Integrate ethical principles; enhance knowledge of culture and diversity needs. Collaborate with others in professional development at institutional and regional levels, model peer relationships. Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care delivery. Develop and evaluate evidence‑based standards of care; identify changes needed through evidence‑based approaches. Consider safety, effectiveness, and cost in planning and delivering care, using resources efficiently. Education Associate degree or Diploma in Nursing. All staff responsible for stroke patients must meet additional stroke‑specific education requirements prior to start – Required. Step‑up requirement: All Diploma and ADN hires must complete a BSN within 60 months of hire OR have 5+ years of RN experience at the time of hire – Required. Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) – Preferred. Experience 1 year RN experience for all float positions – Required. >10 months med‑surg or acute specialty setting – Preferred. Licenses and Certifications Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Arizona – Required upon hire. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification – Required.
