AI Research Scientist, Technical Engagements Applied Scientist, Customer Engagements San Francisco We’re partnering with an early-stage research company working at the intersection of advanced AI, algorithms and quantum computing. They’re looking for an AI Research Scientist to sit within the research team and help translate internal algorithmic progress into technical projects with external partners. This is a hands-on research role for someone who enjoys applying deep technical work to unfamiliar, real‑world problems. You’ll work directly with scientists and engineers across areas such as chemistry, robotics and other computational domains, helping to test capabilities, adapt algorithms and shape future research. What you’ll be doing: Leading two to three customer-connected research projects at a time Translating internal AI and algorithmic research into partner applications Working with external scientists and engineers to understand complex technical problems Adapting or developing algorithms for new domains and use cases Bringing insights from partner work back into the research team Contributing to work that may lead to future publications What we’re looking for: Strong AI, computational or algorithmic depth, ideally supported by a PhD in a relevant field Clear evidence of building or adapting new algorithms, rather than only applying existing tools The ability to reason from first principles and work beyond your original area of expertise A hands‑on, curious and adaptable approach Strong technical communication skills Comfort taking ownership in ambiguous, cross‑functional environments Genuine motivation for applied, externally connected research The role leans more heavily towards AI than quantum. Direct quantum experience isn’t required, but an interest in working across both areas will be important.
