Events Specialist
$19 per hourWayfair
$19.00 per hour The hourly rate is a fixed entry rate for this position and applies to all new hires. While our system may display a pay range, this role’s starting rate is non‑negotiable. Future pay increases are determined by performance, growth, and time in role, in accordance with our compensation policy. Joining a new Wayfair store launch means being part of something special from Day 1. During the first several weeks, you will work alongside the team to help set up, organize, and prepare the store for opening, which will look different from your long term day to day responsibilities. This hands‑on, team‑first experience helps bring our store to life and sets us up for success once we open our doors to the community and our customers. Overview As a Community Event Specialist for Wayfair Stores, you’ll bring our brand to life through engaging, community‑focused events that drive customer traffic and local awareness. Reporting to the Sr. Manager of People Operations, you’ll lead event execution from supplier demos to community gatherings while ensuring seamless logistics and staffing. Beyond events, you’ll support in‑store promotions, events, and visual merchandising to keep the store environment fresh and inviting. This role is your chance to own how Wayfair connects with customers and communities through memorable experiences. What Does an Event Specialist Do? Event Support & Execution: Lead and deliver engaging in‑store and external community events that boost brand visibility and drive foot traffic. Logistics Management: Coordinate setup, breakdown, staffing, and vendor needs to ensure smooth, successful events. Customer Engagement: Serve as the main contact during events, answering questions and ensuring a positive experience and impression of Wayfair. Promotional Oversight: Manage distribution and tracking of promotional materials and coupons accurately. Content Creation Instincts: You should have an eye for visually compelling moments and know what resonates online. You will capture and help create engaging social media content in partnership with the Marketing team (If you have examples or a portfolio of previous content or creations, that’s a huge plus!) Cross‑Functional Collaboration: Work closely with leadership, store support teams, and People Operations to align event goals with business priorities. In‑Store Support: Assist with visual merchandising and promotional displays during non‑event periods to keep the store fresh and inviting. Operate as “One Team”: You will support Wayfair’s total store goals by cross‑training across key store functions, including sales and back‑of‑house operations. You'll flex where needed to support customers, teammates, store needs and peak business periods. You’ll Thrive In This Role If You Have Relevant Experience: 1-2 years in event execution, hospitality, community engagement, or customer‑facing roles. Strong Organization: Skilled at managing event logistics and leading staff from start to finish. Team Leadership: Experience directing small teams and coordinating vendors during fast‑paced events. Excellent Communication: Confidence in engaging new and existing customers, partners, and senior leaders with warmth and clarity. Creative Problem‑Solving: Detail‑oriented with a passion for people, events, and delivering exceptional customer experiences. Self‑Starter Attitude: Independent, adaptable, and energized by fast‑moving, high‑impact environments. Expert in “Mobile” Photography: You’ve got an eye for great shots and know how to make everyday moments pop on camera—using just your phone. Clean, well‑composed, scroll‑stopping photos? That’s your thing. Flexible Availability: Willing to work nights, weekends, and holidays to support event and store needs. Travel Readiness: Comfortable with up to 50% travel, typically within a 50‑mile radius, to support events and community engagements. Additional Physical and Environmental Requirements Physical Activity: Frequent standing, walking, and reaching with hands and arms; occasional sitting, climbing, balancing, and crawling. Mobility & Movement: Frequent stooping, kneeling, and crouching throughout the day. Lifting Ability: Ability to lift and move up to 50 lbs independently on a regular basis. Some projects may involve heavier items, which must be managed with proper assistance or equipment. Vision Requirements: Includes close, distance, color, and peripheral vision; depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. Temperature Flexibility: Comfortable in environments with varying temperature conditions. Noise Tolerance: Occasional exposure to moderate noise levels and physical activity. Safety Awareness: Minimal exposure to workplace or environmental hazards—must adhere to all safety protocols. What are the Benefits? Competitive Pay: Earn competitive compensation with regular opportunities for performance‑based increases. Career Growth: Access professional development and advancement opportunities to help you grow with us. Health Benefits from Day One: Medical, dental, and vision insurance coverage starts on your first day. Time to Recharge: Start accruing paid time off immediately—because work‑life balance matters. 401(k) with Company Match: We’ll match up to 4% to help you plan for your future. Tuition Reimbursement: Eligible after 6 months of employment—learn, grow, and get support along the way. Wayfair Employee Discount: Generous employee discount of up to 30%+, although discounts will vary by product type. Parental Leave Options: Choose from paid and unpaid leave plans to support your growing family. And So Much More: We’ve got more good stuff where that came from! Assistance For Individuals With Disabilities Wayfair is fully committed to providing equal opportunities for all individuals, including individuals with disabilities. As part of this commitment, Wayfair will make reasonable accommodations to the known physical or mental limitations of qualified individuals with disabilities, unless doing so would impose an undue hardship on business operations.
