Reporting to and working closely with the Chief Operating Officer (COO), the CDIO will play a pivotal role in shaping and executing UAB Medicine's technology vision. This leader will ensure that the IT strategy is fully aligned with the organization’s broader mission, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and innovation. In this capacity, the CDIO ensures that technology investments are not only strategically prioritized but also tightly coupled to broader organizational objectives, enhancing patient safety, improving the patient and provider experience, and driving measurable improvements in operational performance. This role requires a forward-looking perspective, balancing immediate operational needs with long-term transformation through digital innovation.Operating with enterprise-wide scope, the CDIO leads the design, deployment, and ongoing optimization of the organization’s technology ecosystem, including core IT systems, data infrastructure, governance frameworks, and service delivery models. A critical aspect of this leadership is establishing strong operational rigor and accountability while continuously advancing capabilities to meet evolving clinical, academic, and research demands. The CDIO ensures that technology functions as a seamless, reliable, and scalable foundation for care delivery and institutional growth.The CDIO will be an excellent communicator, a collaborative team player, and a mentor who can develop and elevate the team. The CDIO will possess a proven track record of success as a technology leader within a health system, ideally in the context of an academic medical center as well as having community-based healthcare experience. Experience with leading large-scale technology transformations encompassing infrastructure modernization and building cohesive, high-performing teams and fostering alignment among diverse stakeholders is desired.
