You will conduct inspections, adjustments, installations, maintenance, and repairs of buildings, utility systems, and stationary equipment. Responsibilities include operating motorized equipment, requisitioning materials, maintaining records, completing paperwork, and communicating with staff. You may be required to drive, make deliveries, pick up supplies, and perform other incidental tasks. You may provide training and guidance to others and work under general supervision with moderate latitude for initiative and independent judgment. You may also participate in disaster response, recovery, or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation, requiring alternate shift patterns or locations. Essential Job Functions Attend work regularly and may work specific shift schedules, rotating or extended shifts, or overtime. Perform inspections, adjustments, maintenance, and repairs on building systems following recognized codes and standards across trades such as plumbing, HVAC, welding, carpentry, painting, and electrical. Demonstrate proper use of hand tools and equipment while performing inspections or repairs. Cooperate with other departments and provide guidance or training to others. Select appropriate materials, calculate costs, and order parts and supplies for repairs. Maintain safe and uninterrupted service to campus operations and programs. Test safety equipment as needed. Accurately complete and maintain records on work orders, projects, and material requisitions. Operate heavy machinery such as backhoes and forklifts as necessary. Participate in disaster response or COOP activation, as required. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs) Knowledge of building mechanical systems, electrical distribution systems, electronics, boilers, painting, carpentry, plumbing, and electrical fixtures. Knowledge of welding procedures, HVAC, sanitation, refrigeration, industrial safety and fire and safety regulations. Skills in using hand tools, power tools, and test equipment. Skills in preventative maintenance and inspections of buildings and building systems. Ability to perform maintenance, follow instructions, estimate materials, and apply proper methods and procedures. Ability to interpret drawings, schematics, or sketches. Ability to work independently or within a team. Ability to solve problems, make decisions, and use good judgment. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. Registrations, Licensure Requirements, or Certifications Must possess a valid Texas driver license or obtain it within 90 days of hire. Applicants with an out-of-state driver license must provide an original certified driving record from the state of licensure. Initial Screening Criteria Vocational training required in one or more of the following trades: electrical, plumbing, masonry, mechanical equipment, locksmithing, painting, motor vehicle maintenance, grounds keeping, equipment maintenance, HVAC, carpentry, welding, electronic cabling. OR Minimum two years’ experience in construction, maintenance, or equipment/vehicle repair work as follows: two years’ experience in at least one trade and six months experience in at least two other trades. Additional Information Applicants must pass a fingerprint criminal background check, pre-employment drug screen, and registry checks including CANRS, Nurse Aid, Medication Aide, Employee Misconduct, LEIE. All applicants must be at least 18 years of age; Waco and Terrell Center for Youth applicants must be 21 years of age. Flexibility in work hours, overtime, and extended hours may be required.
