Maintenance ManagerPosition will remain open until filled with preference given to candidates who apply by Sunday, October 4 at noon. Salary range: $88,520.59-$98,609.05Department: Maintenance Reports To: Chief Operations Officer Revision Date: February 2020The Maintenance Manager is responsible for leading maintenance systems, overseeing continuous improvement of maintenance processes and managing the maintenance needs of all Metro Bus vehicles, equipment, facilities and grounds. The Maintenance Manager provides direct supervision and management of the Maintenance Supervisors and Facilities Maintenance Specialist. Provides indirect supervision of all other Maintenance staff in the management of the day-to-day maintenance of Metro Bus's equipment and facilities. The omission of specific duties does not exclude them if the work is similar, related or logical to the position.Coordination, administration and oversight of maintenance needs of all Metro Bus property and equipment Administer a comprehensive preventative maintenance inspection and repair program for vehicles, support equipment, facilities, diesel and CNG fueling and monitoring stations, and groundsDevelop and monitor preventative maintenance intervals, checklists, replacement parts, and fluidsDevelop benchmarks on fleet performanceEnsure proper completion of maintenance records and formsMonitor work order and use of fleet, equipment and facilities. Ensure maintenance activities are accurately documentedMeasure actual performance to Maintenance Plan goals, determine reasons for variances and recommend corrective actionResponsible for maintaining, updating, and insuring compliance with the Federal Transit Authority (FTA) guidelines and requirements including the Maintenance Plan, Contingency Fleet Plan, and coordination with the TAM PlanMonitor compliance with provisions of equipment warranties Assists with preparation of post warranty settlementsMaintain records of action taken with vendors or manufacturers to recover appropriate remedies due to failures occurring under warrantiesParticipate in preparation and administration of maintenance and facilities budgets Provide cost estimates for justification for budget requestsOversee and/or direct the maintenance, cleaning and upkeep of all Metro Bus facilities, buses and vehicles, bus shelters, and bus stopsAssist and/or oversee with contract and construction management on all building renovation, new construction and special projectsAssist with developing specifications for maintenance equipment, buses and support vehicle procurementCollaborate with the Training and Safety Manager to ensure all public facilities comply with applicable fire, safety and other codesManagement and Supervision of Staff Manage employee performance; provide coaching and mentoring, address performance concerns and issue discipline as appropriateManage maintenance staff in daily maintenance operations Monitor employee compliance with policies, rules, regulations and schedules. Maintain appropriate written documentationAssist the Human Resource and Training and Safety department in Screening, interviewing and hiring of direct maintenance staffPlanning and preparation of training and re-training programs to new and present maintenance staffMaintaining the application of appropriate preventative measures and procedures for shop safety and OSHA complianceEnsure proper care and use of tools, equipment and shop areasCommunicate and collaborate with the Operations Managers to review and address Operator complaints regarding maintenance issuesCommunicates courteously and professionally and maintains respectful working relationships with coworkers and customers in carrying out job functionsPerforms all job duties in compliance with safety guidelines and with an ongoing awareness of safety practices Knows and follows safety rules and guidelines as well as sound work and safety practices in order to accomplish the job objectives and avoid injury or lossWears proper protective equipment when policy requires or conditions indicate a need exists and utilizes proper body mechanics and ergonomics while performing workWhen potentially unsafe conditions are observed, makes efforts to avoid or correct them if they are controllable and draws them to the attention of the responsible supervisor or safety representative in a timely mannerPerforms other duties and activities as assignedMinimum QualificationsThe job requires a four (4) year degree in engineering, business administration or an appropriately related field and five (5) years of management and supervisory experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Must have, or be able to obtain within 90 days, a valid Class B Minnesota Driver License, with passenger and air brake endorsements and current DOT medical certification. Knowledge, skills and abilities required include:Demonstrated background in heavy duty vehicle maintenanceKnowledge in the operating principles of diesel and heavy duty vehicle equipment including theory, repair techniques, maintenance and operation of diesel powered vehicles including engines, transmissions, ignitions, electrical components, air conditioning, heating pneumatics, hydraulics, shop equipment and other related vehicle and facilities itemsKnowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the tradeExperience with vehicle, fluids and parts inventory and fleet maintenance softwareMust be able to maintain a high level of confidentialityAbility to operate buses and support vehicles and equipment including a plow truck, fork lift, skid loader and floor scrubberProficient in the use of computers and electronic diagnostic programsMust be able to read and speak English well enough to read technical documents and effectively communicate with team members. Bilingual a plusAbility to work flexible work schedules including late evenings, early mornings and weekendsAbility to deal tactfully and courteously with co-workers, subordinates, and/or the general public and to diffuse situations/conversations that have escalated beyond normal limits.Interpersonal skills sufficient to exchange and or convey information, receive work direction, and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of employees, committees and groups; and to diffuse situations/conversations that have escalated beyond normal limitsAbility to maintain a valid Class B Minnesota Driver License, with passenger and air brake endorsements and a current DOT medical certificateDesirable QualificationsKnowledge of CNG operating principlesPhysical Demands and Working EnvironmentThis position is alternately in an office and maintenance shop environment requiring alternating periods of sitting and walking throughout the maintenance garageOccasional exposure to temperature extremes, noise, physical and/or chemical hazardsUtilizes personal computer, phone and other office equipment on a regular basisWill require limited travel outside of the office and maintenance shop.
