Graphic Design Assistant The Graphic Design Assistant position is located in the Strategic Management Unit of the Office of the Special Adviser on Africa. The role involves participating in design project discussions, independently undertaking design assignments, and preparing designs for final review and printing. The assistant will also provide guidance throughout the project production process and assist with data analysis and presentations. This position requires a high school diploma and relevant experience in graphic design and publications production. Candidate Requirements: High school diploma or equivalent Minimum 7 years of experience in graphic design and publications production Experience in data analytics is desirable English required, French desirable Graphic Design test required Responsibilities: Within limits of delegated authority, the Graphic Arts Assistant will be responsible for the following duties: Participates in meetings with teams to discuss potential design projects, e.g. substantive content, communication objectives, media (including electronically published products) and design options, technical specifications, costs, schedules/deadlines, etc. Independently undertakes design assignments, including high-priority requests, for a variety of OSAA-sponsored activities (e.g. major conferences, observances, events and campaigns, etc.); conceptualizes and develops design proposals for review by the teams, which may include photographic, illustrative or more abstract graphic solutions. Prepares all approved designs in electronic format for final review and printing in accordance with UN and OSAA branding guidelines; reviews color and print proofs as required. Provides guidance and support throughout the project production process; coordinates and follows up with teams and other relevant parties (e.g. copy and proofreaders, production staff, library and cartography staff, etc.) and ensures that the project is on schedule. Assists with the collection and analysis of data as well as preparation of data presentations and reports for information sharing, responding to queries, knowledge management, planning and decision making. Assists with visualizations and updating information material such as web pages or publications. Performs other related work as required. Job - Specific Qualification: A test or examination in Graphic Design is required. Work Experience: A minimum of seven (7) years of experience in publications production, including desktop publishing, graphic design and layout or related area is required. The minimum years of relevant experience is reduced to five (5) years for candidates who possess a first-level university degree or higher. One year or more of experience in data analytics or related area is desirable Languages: English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this job opening, English is required. French is desirable. Assessment: Candidates who meet the minimum requirements may be asked to participate in an assessment exercise in the field of graphic design.
