Genetics Counselor

Genetic CounselorThe Genetic Counselor will provide comprehensive genetic counseling services to individuals and families with a focus on pediatric general genetics, but with potential opportunities for specialization in a variety of areas, including metabolic genetics, cardiogenomics, cancer genetics, and prenatal genetics.Responsibilities include:Obtaining and interpreting detailed family and medical histories.Assessing and communicating risks for genetic conditions.Ordering and interpreting genetic tests.Providing psychosocial support and counseling to patients and families.Educating patients and healthcare providers about genetic conditions, testing options, and management strategies.Participating in multidisciplinary clinics and collaborating with other healthcare professionals.Contributing to the development and implementation of genetic counseling programs and protocols.Staying up-to-date on the latest advancements in genetic testing and research.Acts as preceptor to the graduate students interning in the Medical Genetics Program.Performs related duties as required. All responsibilities noted here are considered essential functions of the job under the Americans with Disabilities Act.Job QualificationsMaster's Degree in Human Genetics or Genetic Counseling required, or equivalent combination of education and related experience.1-3 years of relevant experience, preferred.
