Job Description
The Director of Sales is responsible for overseeing the sales and marketing efforts of a group of companies within a specific geographic region. This includes developing and implementing strategies to increase occupancy and revenue, managing budgets, and forecasting, and building and maintaining relationships with key clients and partners for Hotel Blackhawk and The Current Iowa.
Education and Experience Required:
- 5+ years of relevant professional experience in corporate and leisure sales with the most recent experience in corporate sales, demonstrating progressive career growth and a pattern of exceptional performance.
- Dual Property Support.
- Previous experience as a member of a senior executive / regional team and assignments in both line and staff sales roles.
- Experience leading and managing large-scale initiatives and managing associated change.
- Proven track record of leading a large corporate and leisure sales organization.
- Demonstrated ability to translate brand strategies and positioning into actionable sales activities that compel corporate & leisure buyers driving purchase behaviors.
- Experience leading B2B marketing approaches in the luxury category.
- Lodging industry experience in the luxury/premium segment.
Education and Experience Preferred:
- Marriott Experience
- Full – Service Hotel Sales Experience .
- 4-year degree from an accredited college or university
- Exposure to operations and work experience globally
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and execute sales and marketing plans to increase revenue and occupancy at the companies within their region
- Identify new business opportunities and develop relationships with potential clients
- Manage budgets and forecasting for the sales and marketing team
- Provide leadership and support to the sales and marketing team, including setting goals and objectives, and monitoring and evaluating performance
- Collaborate with other departments, such as revenue management, to ensure the most effective sales and marketing strategies are in place
- Attend industry events and tradeshows to network and stay up to date on industry trends and developments
- Analyze market trends and competitor activity to inform sales and marketing strategy
- Maintain and update the company’s website and social media presence
- Provide regular reports on sales and marketing performance to upper management

In addition to these general management competencies, a Regional Director of Sales may also need specific skills related to sales and marketing, such as the ability to identify and target new business opportunities, develop, and execute marketing campaigns, and analyze market trends.
Core Work Activities
- Developing and implementing sales and marketing plans: This may include identifying target markets, setting occupancy and revenue goals, and developing strategies to achieve those goals.
- Managing budgets and forecasting: The regional director may be responsible for developing and managing budgets for the sales and marketing team and forecasting revenue and occupancy trends to inform decision-making.
- Building and maintaining relationships with key clients and partners: This may include cultivating relationships with corporate clients, travel agencies, and other partners to drive business to the hotels within their region.
- Providing leadership and support to the sales and marketing team: This may include setting goals and objectives, providing training and development opportunities, and monitoring and evaluating team performance.
- Collaborating with other departments: The regional director may work closely with other departments, such as revenue management and operations, to ensure that the sales and marketing efforts are aligned with the overall goals of the organization.
- Attending industry events and tradeshows: The regional director may attend industry events and tradeshows to network, stay up to date on industry trends, and promote the hotels within their region.
- Analyzing market trends and competitor activity: The regional director may conduct market research and analysis to inform sales and marketing strategy and ensure that the hotels within their region remain competitive.
- Maintaining and updating the hotels' website and social media presence: The regional director may be responsible for ensuring that the hotels' online presence is up-to-date and effective at promoting the hotels and attracting business.
- Providing regular reports on sales and marketing performance: The regional director may be responsible for providing regular reports to upper management on the sales and marketing performance of the hotels within their region.
Administrative Duties:
· Developing and implementing sales and marketing plans: This involves setting targets for room occupancy and revenue and creating strategies to achieve these targets.
· Managing the sales team: The director of hotel sales and marketing is responsible for hiring, training, and managing the sales team, and setting performance goals for the team.
· Developing and maintaining relationships with key clients: This may include corporate accounts, travel agents, and other partners that are important to the hotel.
· Monitoring and analyzing market trends: The director of hotel sales and marketing should stay up to date on industry trends and changes in the local market and adjust the sales and marketing strategies accordingly.
· Managing the budget for sales and marketing: The director is responsible for ensuring that the sales and marketing budget is used effectively and efficiently.
· Tracking and reporting on the performance of sales and marketing efforts: This includes monitoring occupancy rates, revenue, and other key metrics, and reporting on the results to hotel management.
