Data Center Operations Technician II — Evening Shift

Position: Data Center Technician II Shift: Swing (3:00 pm – 11:30 pm, Tuesday – Saturday). Key Responsibilities Manage building service requests through resolution. Perform and complete work orders and customer service tickets in a timely manner. Remote Hands Management. Mine cables without disrupting existing data cabling on facility ladder rack or fiber trough. Support infrastructure projects (internal and customer‑driven), including cage and cabinet build‑outs, overhead installations, rack and stack. Navigate and utilize a CMMS system. Use developed procedures to solve problems and assist in asset and consumable inventory management. Track and properly label all equipment per established procedures. Ensure processes are completed in a timely manner related to Service Level Agreements (SLA) and upload data to internal systems accordingly. Monitor and respond to abnormal conditions in mechanical, electrical, building monitoring, security, and control systems. Follow direction of senior data center technicians regarding day‑to‑day activities. Provide physical security within the CoreSite premises. Escalate incidents and write incident reports. Provide day‑to‑day exceptional customer service and support. Maintain and document regular facility and security tours, responding to found issues. Notify customers, management, and facility teams of security system alarms and breaches. Manage loading dock shipping and receiving. Assist with system management to avoid unplanned customer‑impacting outages. Adhere to and promote CoreSite’s principles of operational excellence, culture, and guiding principles. Requirements High School Diploma or greater. 2+ years of experience in facilities or telecom industry. Experience as an installer in a mission‑critical facility is a plus. Pass an extensive background check (criminal history, references, employment and education verification, motor vehicle and credit check). Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Basic knowledge of cabling media types, 568A/568B color codes, and best practices. Familiarity with CCTV, access control, and security systems. Strong communication skills with customers and internal staff. Excellent troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills. Ability to learn quickly and address issues in a mission‑critical 24x7 environment. Ability to write concise and accurate reports. Work independently and as part of a team. Schedule flexibility; ability to work non‑standard business hours. Strong work ethic and accountability. Follow all escalation procedures for critical or emergency situations. Operate hand and machine tools (hammer, drill, saw, etc.) and electrical tools (multimeter, infrared camera). Basic computer literacy: MS Word, Excel, Outlook. On‑the‑job understanding of mechanical, electrical, fire life safety, and security systems used in a data center environment. Physical Demands Stand, walk, sit, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl 1/3 – 2/3 of the time. Reach with hands and arms 1/3 – 2/3 of the time. Lift up to 50 pounds 1/3 of the time. Ability to see at close and distance ranges and identify color. Work in a high‑stress, fast‑paced environment with shifting priorities.
