Description: The Progressive Care Unit is a step-down unit from the Intensive Care Unit. It serves a wide variety of patient populations requiring multiple disciplines. Co-Care/Virtual Nursing Model is utilized on this unit. For every patient, there is one bedside RN, a Virtual RN, and one CNA. Bedside RN to patient ratio is 1:4; CNA to patient ratio is 1:6. The virtual nurse works remotely and assists with admission, discharge, rounding, education, plans of care, and safety rounds. Approximately 30% of the patient population is cardiac in nature, including CHF, MI, and post-operative cardiac patients. Respiratory patients are also cared for, including those with COVID, FLU, COPD, and Asthma exacerbations. The unit accommodates neuro and renal patients, as well as complicated medical-surgical cases requiring higher levels of monitoring. Interdisciplinary support includes IV Teams, Physical Therapy, Respiratory Services, and more. The environment requires the ability to perform essential nursing skills, manage a variety of patient conditions, and provide high-quality care.
