Speech Pathologist

Location and Schedule City/State: White Plains, New York. Department: Stroke OT. Schedule: Day, alternate work schedule with 10 hourly work days. Hours: 7:15AM–5:45PM, 10 hours per day. For some positions the shift may be Sunday–Thursday, 8:15AM–4:45PM. Hourly Rate: $99,466.62–$111,393.45. Sign‑on bonus: n/a. Job Summary Evaluates, diagnoses, and treats patients/residents with varied disorders of communication and swallowing, carries out administrative duties associated with patient/resident care, and contributes to program/department operations appropriate to the specific site. Possesses advanced clinical expertise, supervises staff from a clinical practice perspective, and provides co‑treatment and educational services. Essential Functions Diagnose speech/language and swallowing disorders using standardized and non‑standardized test procedures, case history, medical information, and presenting symptoms. Determine appropriateness of intervention, referral to other specialists, and prognosis. Develop appropriate long‑ and short‑term goals. Plan, direct, and administer age‑appropriate individual and/or group treatment programs based on evaluation results to restore and improve communication and/or swallowing. Recommend follow‑up treatment and/or evaluation upon discharge. Complete documentation according to facility time frames and requirements. Identify and bill therapy services rendered correctly. Attend and report at rounds and team conferences; be aware of safety precautions and carry out emergency procedures. Participate in in‑service programs and prepare materials for evaluation and treatment activities. Provide patient/resident/family education and training and participate in family conferences. Demonstrate ability to lead treatment groups and to communicate effectively in written, oral, and report formats. Supervise rehab aides and volunteers as appropriate; provide in‑service training for staff as requested. Notify the Director/Manager of equipment or supplies needs; maintain department procedures. Participate in program/division maintenance, maintain a safe work environment, and engage in problem‑solving projects. Cover for team leader when indicated; assist new staff orientation/competency assessment. Participate in student training programs as needed; communicate needs to appropriate personnel. Modify performance in response to feedback; notify stakeholders of unusual findings in a timely manner. Apply knowledge of physical, psychosocial, and cognitive changes related to age to assessments, treatment plans, and modalities for diverse patients. Complete annual career ladder requirements, adhere to infection control, uphold confidentiality (HIPAA), and maintain a professional image. Demonstrate reliable, on‑time attendance and complete mandatory annual learning (Learning Harbor). Adhere to Burke C.A.R.E.S. philosophy (compassion, accountability, respect, service excellence). Perform other job‑related duties as assigned. Qualifications Master’s degree required. Speech‑Language Pathologist, licensed by the New York State Board of Speech‑Language Pathology and Audiology. BLS certification from the American Heart Association. Manual dexterity for equipment controls and oral mechanism examination. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to manipulate wheelchairs into small spaces. Experience working with physicians, consulting otolaryngologists, patients, families, students, and visitors.
