Director of Respiratory Therapy - Hospital - Council Oak

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education - Completion or graduation of an accredited Respiratory Therapy Program from an accredited college or university. Experience - Prefer five (5) years as a respiratory therapist with two (2) years supervisory experience. Licenses & Certification - Incumbent is required to possess current licensure by the Oklahoma State Board of Medical Licensure and Supervision. Must have current CPR certification. WORK ENVIRONMENT Work is performed in both an office setting and in an ambulatory or inpatient health center environment. There is possible exposure to infectious communicable disease, potentially hazardous chemicals, and biohazardous materials. Incumbent must be aware of all risks involved, and be willing to take precautions as required and requested. Special attire may be required as protection against infection.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS Work requires long periods of standing, walking and office work. Occasional bending, lifting, stretching and positioning patients. Ability to lift in excess of 50 pounds is required to perform positional duties. Incumbent must be able to cope with constant changes in a stressful environment.

- Knowledge of human anatomy, chemistry and physiology.
- Ability to operate and maintain the Respiratory Therapy Department to include reports and other administrative functions.
- Ability to use a variety of manual resuscitators and the skill to administer the correct volume and pressures for patients of all ages.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Satisfactory job performance will be determined by successful execution of the following:
- Participates in the strategic planning of the department; plans, directs, and coordinates department-wide activities; provides advice, counsel, and education to the staff.
- Administers finances; directs preparation of various budgets; negotiates contracts.
- Maintains open communication and serves as liaison to MCNDoH personnel to assure coordination of respiratory therapy operations.
- Oversees project management.
- Establish, review and revise policies and procedures for the operations of the Respiratory Therapy Program.
- Responsible for maintaining professional licensures, certifications/registrations and required continuing education as mandated.
- Coordinates with and provides general supervision and ensures regulations and standards are met.
- Required to perform direct patient care respiratory therapy tasks and procedures as needed.
- Duties to include work schedule maintenance, department Quality Improvement/ Performance, weekly time off/payroll approvals, maintaining current department communication, obtaining quotes for equipment purchase. Collaboration with facilities management and biomed to maintain proper equipment function.
- Makes regular rounds on the hospital nursing unit to review or collect clinical data to insure that the respiratory equipment is operating properly and in compliance with physician's orders.
- Must identify and correct mechanical malfunctions occurring with equipment, including the disassembly, reassembly, safety checks and operational checks.
- Responsible for the decontamination and sterilization of equipment.
- Will provided coverage in absence of other respiratory therapy department staff if necessary.
- Performs other duties as required.
