Senior Writer and Content Strategist Wayne State University is searching for an experienced Senior Writer and Content Strategist at its Detroit campus location. Essential functions (job duties): JobPurpose Support effortsto create a variety of integrated fundraising initiatives, as well as informativeand inspiring messages that promote the mission, priorities, and values ofWayne State University. Develop partnerships with university leaders, fundraisingprofessionals and faculty to gain an understanding of impactful projects andprograms throughout the university, develop pathways to funding, and articulatetheir relevance to the university's mission, through high-quality written casestatements, proposals, and other fundraising materials. Support fundraisingactivities by helping to strengthen communications within the division, acrosscampus and in the community to encourage long-term investment with Wayne Statefrom diverse audiences. This position reports to the Senior Director, AdvancementCommunications. EssentialFunctions (Essentialfunctions are the primary duties/major job responsibilities that an employeemust be able to perform, with or without reasonable accommodation. Theessential functions are listed in order of importance.) Supportthe development of written and designed materials for principal and majorgift fundraising, including case statements, proposals, executive summaries,special letters, briefing materials, reports, and white papers. Partnerwith university leadership, development professionals, university faculty,and staff to identify projects and programs for fundraising initiatives, fromdean-approved and faculty-led projects to university-wide strategicinitiatives. Develop associated materials. Supportand create comprehensive campaign and fundraising materials for theuniversity and for each school and college in collaboration with universityand division leadership. Support work to identify communication strategiesfor fundraising initiatives within comprehensive and micro-campaigns. Strategize with frontline fundraisers in theunits as well as division leadership, University-wide Philanthropy, DonorExperience, and others to develop unified language and materials that helpachieve fundraising goals. Partnerwith division colleagues to develop and support their content creation asneeded, including but not limited to Annual Giving, Donor Experience,University-wide Philanthropy and Planned Giving. Assistteam with copyediting and proofreading. Performother related duties as assigned. Qualifications:
MINIMUMQUALIFICATIONS
Education : Bachelor's degree Bachelor’sdegree from an accredited college or university with a concentration in English,communications, marketing, or journalism. Master’s degree preferred. Experience: Intermediate (3 to 4 years job-related experience) At leastthree years professional writing experience within advancement or fundraisingcommunications for a college, university or nonprofit preferred. Strongresearch, interviewing, writing, and editing skills with demonstratedproofreading skills. Strongknowledge and understanding of fundraising and stewardship processes andcommunications. Experiencein a higher education fundraising environment preferred.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Analytical and PresentationSkills : Ability to evaluate,interpret, and present complex information effectively in professionally prepared documents orpresentations. Must possess a demonstrated attention to detail in order toachieve a high degree of accuracy. Collaboration: Exhibits a willingness to partner withunits across the university with integrity and high character to reach unifiedgoals. Possesses the ability to navigate difficult situations with grace andunderstanding. Communication Skills: Ability to communicate clearly, concisely andprofessionally both orally and in writing. Strong interpersonal skills are amust. Demonstrates the ability to plan and deliveroral and written communications that are impactful and persuasive includingpresentations to university management and committees. Editing and Proofreading Skills : Ability to accurately edit and proofread a variety of materials undertight deadlines. Learning Agility : Independent and innovative self-starter who displaysan ability to learn quickly and easily adapts to changing situations.Experience researching topics to gain knowledge and understanding wheninformation gaps exist. Planning and Organization : Ability to manage several projects simultaneously,prioritize and plan work activities while meeting respective deadlines. Strongorganizational and time-management skills required. Maturity, sound judgmentand ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously in a deadline-orientedenvironment. Teamwork : Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagueswithin the division and other units to gain full understanding of the projectand desired outcome; ability to produce high quality and consistent resultswith assistance of team members; provide support to teammates when tacklingcomplex projects. Technical Skills : Proficient in the use of complex administrativesystems software, preferably in the higher education environment. Proficientwith Microsoft Office suite, especially Word, Excel and Teams. Ability tounderstand and translate complex concepts into lay terms. Writing Skills : Ability to conduct research, interview subjects and write materialsthat are creative and interesting, with strong attention to detail, grammar,and style rules.
