Radiologic Technologist
We are actively seeking compassionate, enthusiastic, and patient-oriented individuals who will share in the goal of creating the ideal experience for patients, families, and employees.
Utilizes ionizing radiation to create diagnostic imaging radiographs of designated anatomical areas in accordance with established practices and procedures of all age groups. Obtains patient history, explains routine procedures and addresses patient concerns. Provides appropriate patient care following the Radiology Gold Service Excellence guidelines to achieve successful completion of procedure. Exercise professional judgment in the performance of this service following the Code of Conduct of the ARRT. Contribute as a team member to enhance job stewardship mindful of Internal and External customer service standards.
Responsibilities*
- Assist the IR Technologist by circulating during procedures under direct supervision, including:
- Verifying the correct patient and procedure.
- Apply principles of radiation protection to minimize exposure to patient, self, and others.
- Positions patient using appropriate protection devices and immobilizing techniques for age specific patient populations.
- Assist with fluoroscopic, ultrasound, and other ancillary equipment.
- Scanning items in Q-Sight, documenting in MiChart, and verifying images in Sectra.
- Assist with sterile tray set up and complete room turnover.
- Gather supplies and equipment for procedures, including stocking rooms and serving as a runner.
- Assist the Radiologist in the IR suite while following fluoroscopy guidelines and proper contrast media use.
- Assist with organizing procedure rooms and supplies during downtime; review and pull expired items if found.
- Understands and applies Guest relation skills following the Patient and Families First Principles.
- Work consistently as a team member willing to assist everyone, crossing modalities when needed.
- Follow Infection Control practices utilizing aseptic techniques, observing Universal precautions, and patient safety standards.
- Possess a positive work ethic to enhance teamwork in a fast-paced environment and accountability for actions.
- When imaging departments are not in need of student radiologic technologist, the student tech will be responsible for helping with the finding and testing of radiology and non-radiology lead.
- Identify and enter data into the Radiology Information System and the PACS.
- Complete required mandatory competencies for patient safety, infection control, fire safety, corporate compliance, and patient confidentiality. Including additional assigned educational modules for self-improvement.
- Maintain BCLS Certification
- Receive, relay, and document verbal, written, and electronic orders in the patient's medical record.
Required Qualifications*
Second year student that is close to being registry eligible.
Experience with all patients, understanding age-appropriate guidelines for communication, positioning, and radiation protection.
Demonstrated excellent customer service skills utilizing critical thinking skills that demonstrate ingenuity, creativity, and professionalism.
Excellent attendance record.
The ability to meet the Radiographer's professional role expectations defined as, critical thinking skills, interpersonal behavioral and social skills including communication, physical mobility (pushing, pulling, reaching, and moving up to 50 pounds) and motor skills demonstrating gross and fine motor abilities, sensory abilities of speech, hearing, touch, visual observation, and cognitive attention for patient safety.
The Radiographer is capable of maintaining the physical ability to: 1. Demonstrate critical thinking skills defined as:
Evaluate and follow work processes to ensure Patient Identification, evaluating Radiographs for image quality, selecting the correct exposure factors, taking into consideration the patient's size, age, and pathology.
2. Communicate both verbally and in writing at a professional level.
a. Demonstrate English language proficiency being able to read, interpret the physician's orders, process the corresponding paperwork utilizing typing and computer skills and communicate with the patient's and families.
b. Display compassion, empathy, and professionalism regarding interactions with all customers and co-workers, fostering an atmosphere of respect.
3. Demonstrate sufficient locomotors and dexterity skills necessary for health care delivery with safety.
a. To be able to push, pull, assist, and transfer patients from transportation devices to and from the radiography table without injury to self, patient, or others.
b. Be able to push, pull and move up to 50 pounds.
c. Physical ability to work standing on your feet 90% of the time, able to wear lead aprons for a minimum of 2 hours, and able to walk up to 5 miles during a normal workday.
d. Physical dexterity using fine motor skills manually reaching to position the radiographic tube, procedure room booms and monitors to desired height and angle, using push buttons, knobs, and various controls.
e. Physically able to administer emergency care including performing CPR.
4. Use of sensory abilities of speech, hearing, touch, and visual observation as detailed:
a. Auditory ability to hear monitor alarms, emergency signals and cries for help including being able to hear when in an environment where surgical masks are worn such as the Operating room.
b. Visual ability to assess the patient's needs for patient safety. Able to observe the necessary technical factors, collimator centering and all the equipment utilized by the radiographer.
c. Tactile ability for manipulation of body parts to ensure proper alignment, necessary palpation for patient positioning and manipulation of dials, buttons, and switches of various sizes.
5. Cognitive ability sufficient for patient assessment and operation of equipment and care of patients.
a. Must be able to concentrate and focus attention and efforts on the patients', the procedure, and the performance of the equipment for varying periods of time.
b. Able to respond to patients' changing physical conditions and the stressful demands of the job requirements.
Desired Qualifications*
Sectra PACS experience, as well as proficient computer entry skills, including MiChart.
