Job Details

• Weekly Estimated Pay: $1,800 – $1,890
• Contract Duration: 13 weeks (April 15, 2026 – July 15, 2026)
• Shift: 12-hour nights (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM) — Night shift travel nurse / travel RN
• Hours per Week: 36
• Setting: Cardiovascular Progressive Care Unit (CVPC) – 40 cardiac surgery stepdown beds (cardiac surgery, TAVR postop, thoracic cases)
• Location: A leading hospital in Asheville, NC — Asheville, NC nursing jobs / North Carolina travel nurse
• Weekend Requirement: Minimum 6 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule period
• Dress Code: All navy, white tops/navy bottoms, or all white

Job Requirements

• Active RN license in North Carolina or Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) compact state
• Current ACLS and BLS certifications
• Minimum 1 year of recent stepdown and telemetry experience (telemetry nurse / stepdown RN)
• Experience with cardiovascular and vascular surgery populations preferred (open heart, TAVR, lobectomy, AAA repair, fem-pop bypass)
• CVICU experience is a plus for cardiac surgery stepdown roles
• Ability to float to other stepdown (1:5 ratios), medical-surgical (1:6–1:7 ratios), or ER inpatient holding area (1:6)
• Familiarity with Cerner EMR preferred (electronic charting experience)
• Team player, flexible, and thrives in a fast-paced hospital environment

Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality post-operative nursing care to cardiovascular and thoracic surgery patients and overflow medical cardiology patients (cardiac post-op care)
• Monitor and manage telemetry/stepdown patients, maintaining typical 1:5 nurse-to-patient ratios
• Perform unit procedures including epidural and chest tube management, tube feedings, IV glycometer checks, and management of cardiac drips and infusions (phenylephrine, dobutamine, dopamine, milrinone, cardizem, amiodarone, insulin, heparin, nitroglycerin, ketamine)
• Collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers, respiratory therapy, and multidisciplinary teams to optimize patient outcomes
• Document patient care and nursing interventions accurately in Cerner EMR (electronic medical record)
• Maintain scheduling flexibility to work holidays and float as needed to support unit staffing needs
