The Deputy Public Guardian has a vital responsibility in the planning, organization, and implementation of Public Guardian services within Mineral County. This role involves overseeing the comprehensive care, custody, and management of individuals under guardianship, ensuring their safety and well-being. The individual will execute essential functions that promote the personal development, education, and support of these individuals. By actively addressing their needs and preferences, this position aims to ensure that each person receives customized attention, resources, and services tailored to their unique circumstances, fostering an environment that supports their growth and dignity. The Deputy Public Guardian must demonstrate familiarity with the Nevada Division for Aging and Disability Services (ADSD) Service Specifications and adhere to the guidelines outlined in the Operations Manual (PINS).

Oversee the comprehensive care, custody, and management of individuals under guardianship;

Ensure the safety and well-being of protected individuals;

Execute functions that promote the personal development, education, and support of individuals under guardianship;

Address needs and preferences of protected individuals to provide customized attention, resources, and services;

Conduct thorough research on referrals for protected individuals and document findings carefully;

Connect individuals with important community resources and services;

Identify and connect protected individuals with support systems that meet their unique needs;

Collect, organize, analyze, and present data clearly and systematically;

Keep accurate and organized records including thorough documentation of guardian cases;

Prepare balance sheets for financial disbursements and receipts;

Manage personal finances for protected individuals;

Read and interpret legal documents accurately, especially in guardianship and estate administration;

Ensure compliance with state laws and county regulations governing guardianship and estate administration;

Follow policies for accounting and fund management;

Demonstrate familiarity with Nevada Division for Aging and Disability Services (ADSD) Service Specifications;

Adhere to guidelines outlined in the Operations Manual (PINS);

Maintain confidentiality of all conversations and case information;

Follow a strong code of ethics to protect privacy and dignity of individuals;

Build and maintain good working relationships with individuals, families, professionals, and community organizations;

Interact effectively with the public, both in person and by phone, while remaining courteous and professional;

Take initiative and make independent decisions while following general policy guidelines;

Maintain organized filing systems and operate office equipment effectively;

Participate in the creation and presentation of public relations materials and briefings to raise awareness of Public Guardian services;

Obtain and maintain all required in-service training pertinent to the role; and

Perform additional duties as necessary to support the organization's mission and goals.

Knowledge of public and business administration principles and practices, accounting and bookkeeping principles, human services, community health work, and social work practices, needs of vulnerable populations including elderly and disabled individuals, needs of clients with mental health issues, government programs including Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, and Veteran Services, case management methods and ethical guidelines, best practices for casework and goal setting, Nevada Division for Aging and Disability Services (ADSD) Service Specifications, Operations Manual (PINS) guidelines, state laws and county regulations governing guardianship and estate administration, policies for accounting and fund management, basic legal terminology related to guardianship and estate administration, confidentiality requirements and ethical guidelines, community resources and support systems, personal finance management, standard office practices and procedures, filing systems and records management, business English, spelling, grammar, and punctuation, computer software and online platforms, and public relations and communication techniques.

Operate computers proficiently and use various software and online platforms, prepare balance sheets for financial disbursements and receipts, conduct thorough research and gather information from various sources, collect, organize, analyze, and present data clearly and systematically, maintain accurate and organized records, communicate information in a simple, accurate, and straightforward manner, both orally and in writing, read and interpret legal documents, build and maintain good working relationships, interact effectively with the public in person and by phone, identify and connect individuals with appropriate community resources, document findings and case information thoroughly, operate office equipment effectively, maintain organized filing systems, prepare reports and presentations, manage multiple cases and priorities simultaneously, and establish and maintain effective working relationships with diverse populations.

Keep all conversations confidential and follow a strong code of ethics, protect the privacy and dignity of individuals in care, connect individuals with community resources and services that meet their unique needs, understand the unique needs of elderly and disabled individuals, understand the needs of clients with mental health issues, develop empathy and strengthen advocacy for vulnerable populations, perform duties professionally and diligently, take initiative and make independent decisions while following general policy guidelines, solve problems as they arise, be friendly, approachable, and empathetic, build trust and foster collaboration, work effectively with individuals, families, other professionals, and community organizations, remain courteous and professional in all interactions, assist individuals in accessing government programs and resources, follow best practices to provide effective services for clients, ensure accountability and compliance with legal requirements, travel to different work locations as needed, support diverse populations, especially those needing social assistance during difficult times, make informed decisions that result in the best outcomes for those served, handle sensitive information with care and respect, interact positively with others including protected individuals, families, medical professionals, legal professionals, and the public, understand and apply policies, procedures, and written and oral directions to specific situations, adapt to changing situations and client needs, handle stressful situations with compassion and professionalism, and maintain regular and consistent punctuality and attendance.
