Job Title

The duties of this position include:

Providing official/personal mail service in accordance with DoD 4525.6-M, DoD Postal Manual and DoD 4525.8-M, DoD Official Mail Manual; DoDI 4525.8/AF Sup 1; Official Mail and Distribution Management; and Cost Control Program. Processing annually more than 4 million pieces of official and personnel mail at three official mail centers JBSA Ft Sam Houston, Lackland AFB and Randolph AFB Official Mail Centers (OMC), six postal service centers, Randolph Postal Service Center (PSC), Lackland Postal Service Centers (PSC #2, #3 and #7) and a Student Mail Center (SMC) and Benner Barracks at JBSA-Fort Sam Houston.

Providing accountability and control of classified communications; to provide document security services; and to provide office automation and clerical support for the Operations Flight. Receiving, recording, sorting, transporting, controlling, and processing all incoming and outgoing special services mail, i.e. registered, express, certified, insured, and other various extra service articles personally through the window to the addressee/authorized agent and to various organizations and mailrooms designated mail orderlies and mail clerks.

Providing expedient and complete mail like matter services sent via commercial carriers. Responsible for securely receiving, controlling and processing commercial carrier parcels (i.e. UPS and FedEx parcels).

Providing first-line defense of Mail Security for JBSA customers and serviced activities. Responsible for knowing the characteristics of suspicious mail items and the proper procedures for handling and reporting suspicious mail items to the proper authorities.

Maintaining and Operating as a Unit Mail Clerk. Responsible for assigning and withdrawal of receptacles for TDY, student and permanent party postal lock boxes, changing combinations /keys, redirecting undeliverable mail. Receiving, unloading, sorting, and processing incoming shipments of mail trays, parcels, sacks, and correspondence into postal receptacles.
