EMT Position
EMT may perform certain functions in the Emergency Department within their scope of practice and hospital policy and hospital approval of the Medical Director. Competencies will be maintained in all areas of practice. EMT will document all procedures and/or medication administration performed in the patient record. The R.N. directs and plans the care of the patients; therefore paramedics will communicate and review medication orders with the R.N. prior to administration. The EMT is also responsible for reassessing the patients after medication administration for hemodynamic responses, side effects or allergic reactions. EMT must document all procedures, medications and observations that they perform in the Emergency Department. EMT will not take verbal orders from the physician.
Education: Preferred high school diploma or equivalent. Completion of accredited EMT program with certification from the State of Tennessee.
Licensure/Certification: Current certification in BLS, ACLS, PALS and current EMT licensure for the State of Tennessee.
Experience Knowledge: Must possess good customer service skills. Good knowledge of body mechanics. Basic computer skills.
