Organization Ground Transport Job Summary Independently activates patient care protocols using assessment skills within the Tennessee paramedic scope and the Vanderbilt paramedic scope. Responsible for field triage care and Emergency Department responsibilities, ensuring effective communication for safe, quality patient care in the paramedic team, transport, and handover. Department Summary LifeFlight Ground EMS began with a single ambulance in 2011 and now operates a fleet of 21 ALS‑equipped ground ambulances out of five locations across Middle Tennessee: Nashville, Wilson County (Lebanon), Coffee County (Tullahoma), Montgomery County (Clarksville), and Bedford County (adjacent to Vanderbilt Bedford). The ambulances focus mainly on interfacility transfers and discharges from Vanderbilt‑affiliated medical facilities, with the capability to support non‑Vanderbilt facilities. Shift Details Variable 12‑hour shifts, including night, weekend, and holiday coverage. Typical shifts: 7 a.m.–7 p.m., 8 a.m.–8 p.m., 9 a.m.–9 p.m., 7 p.m.–7 a.m. (Monday–Friday); 7 a.m.–7 p.m., 7 p.m.–7 a.m. weekends. Key Responsibilities Actively participates with other healthcare team members to provide direct patient care. Transports patients via various modes while delivering quality ALS and Critical Care management to all ages. Responds to emergency requests within Vanderbilt, Vanderbilt‑sponsored, or other contracted events. Uses the problem‑solving model to independently resolve patient problems and follow through with the Health Care Team to implement solutions. Identifies patient and unit problems, develops solutions, and implements them. Effectively communicates patient handover to the health care team. Technical Capabilities Assessing, Intervening & Stabilizing Patients (Novice): Demonstrates sufficient fundamental proficiency in assessing, intervening, and stabilizing patients in moderately difficult practical applications, generally under direction. Medication Management (Novice): Demonstrates systematic assessment of medication regimes, past medication history, and identifies problems to contact primary care providers. Critical Thinking (Novice): Demonstrates clarity, accuracy, precision, relevance, and sound evidence in task completion. Airway Establishing (Novice): Demonstrates sufficient proficiency in establishing an airway in moderately difficult practical applications. Ventilator Management (Novice): Demonstrates proficiency in ventilator management in moderately difficult practical applications. Position Qualifications Certifications: LIC‑Emergency Medical Technician – Paramedic; Tennessee Driver’s License – F Endorsement – Tennessee. Work Experience: Less than 1 year of relevant experience.
