Peer Support Specialist

Part-time temporary position; up to 29 hours per week. This position is for Lexington/Richland. Under the general supervision of the Director of Mental and Behavioral Health Services, the Peer Support Specialist serves as a peer support for assigned offenders; assists offenders with the treatment and service enrollment process; encourages engagement in services; serves as a liaison for substance use providers; assists in program development; assists in staff trainings.

A high school diploma or equivalent relevant human services or social services experience. Must be or able to be credentialed as an Addiction Professionals of South Carolina (APSC) certified peer support specialist (CPSS) within 180 days of hire. A minimum of three years of lived recovery, which must be verified by current and/or previous employers or an administrator of volunteer organizations. A minimum of three years since any criminal justice involvement (e.g., arrest, incarceration, supervision).

Experience working with a forensic population is preferred.
