Renewables Project Manager

Testing Required: Not Applicable Hybrid Role: Must be able to come on-site 3 days per week and reside a commutable distance from the assigned work location. Emergency Response: Yes – Must be available to perform a primary assignment in support of DTE’s emergency response to storms or other events that impact service to our customers. Job Summary Responsible for the field-based design, construction, and/or commissioning of large-scale capital renewable energy projects, including management of EPC contractors and major equipment suppliers. Uses formal project management methods to coordinate multi-disciplinary project teams across engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning. Types of projects include solar, wind, and battery energy storage systems (BESS), with hands-on, site-intensive construction assignments in collaboration with multiple internal and external stakeholders. Key Accountabilities Manage EPC contractor performance against contractual milestones, liquidated damages provisions, and quality/safety requirements for construction scopes in the $30M–$50M range. Develops renewable energy project scope and coordinates a team of specialists who provide project schedule, cost estimates and engineering specifications for capital projects. Ensures the completion of engineering, design, installation, testing, commissioning into service and project closeout. Responsible for renewable project expenditures and the cost-effective procurement of labor, equipment and materials: coordinates with authorized company representatives in conducting bid meetings and reviews, supplier selections and evaluations; determines contracting strategy congruent with labor utilization strategies. Maintain a regular on-site presence during active construction phases to oversee contractor mobilization, civil/structural works, electrical installation, and equipment erection. Responsible for meeting key performance metrics including scope, schedule, and budget for projects and/or programs. Communicate as the main point of contact to provide updates on project statuses to all stakeholders and engage appropriate stakeholders in decisions to ensure a clear understanding of direction and expectations. Serve as the main liaison with internal organizations, plants, suppliers, trade labor organizations (unions), etc. May support contract administration services for blanket orders or other subcontractors and vendors. Evaluates conditions and consults on solutions to control project risk. Drive contractor safety performance on active construction sites, including oversight of Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), daily safety briefings, and incident investigations. Identifies and obtains regulatory approval for the construction and operation of new renewable energy projects required. Maintain a regular on-site presence during active construction phases to oversee contractor mobilization, civil/structural works, electrical installation, and equipment erection. Minimum Education & Experience Requirements This is a multi-track base requirement job; education and experience requirements can be satisfied through one of the following three options: Master’s or bachelor’s degree in engineering, engineering technology, architecture, construction management, project management, or business/management and 6 years of project management experience inclusive of 2 years with large scale construction or utility project related experience, with 6 months of project management experience in renewable energy such as wind, solar, and energy storage capital projects. Associate degree in engineering, engineering technology, architecture/technical design, project management, business/management, construction management, or construction technology and 8 years of related project management experience inclusive of 2 years with large scale construction or utility project related experience, with 6 months of project management experience in renewable energy such as wind, solar, and energy storage capital projects. High School Diploma or equivalent and 10 years of related project management experience inclusive of 2 years with large scale construction or utility project related experience, with 6 months of project management experience in renewable energy such as wind, solar, and energy storage capital projects. Other Qualifications Preferred: Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification Renewable energy construction experience, preferably in BESS, solar, or wind project delivery Demonstrated experience managing heavy civil, industrial, or large-scale infrastructure construction projects (e.g., power generation, substations, transmission, water/wastewater, or similar) Experience with multi-disciplinary coordination across civil, structural, mechanical, and electrical trades Experience managing EPC or general contractors on projects with construction scopes of $25M or greater Familiarity with construction contract administration, including pay applications, change orders, RFIs, submittals, and punch lists Other Qualifications Traveling is required up to 20% of the time. Ability to review and challenge EPC contractor schedules built in P6" to signal the PM must be schedule-literate, not just aware of the tool Analysis of metrics on project deadlines, budgets, and deliverables Experience presenting strategic plans to all levels of leadership, including senior leaders. Hands-on experience in managing renewable energy projects or large-scale projects. Proficiency in handling projects involving multi-disciplinary teams and many stakeholders.
