CNC Machinist / Machine Operator

$28-$35+/hr DOE | 4-Day Work Week | Overtime Available | Long-Term Career Growth

We're seeking a CNC Machinist / Machine Operator to join a growing heavy industrial manufacturer that machines large-scale components for industries such as sawmills, paper mills, and industrial processing facilities.

• Set up and operate CNC mills and lathes machining large structural and industrial components.
• Perform multiple setups daily in a high-mix, low-volume job shop environment.
• Touch off tools, establish offsets, and prepare machines for production runs.
• Proof programs and verify tooling, clearances, and machining strategies before machining parts.
• Make minor program edits, feed and speed adjustments, and troubleshoot machining issues.
• Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and GD&T specifications.
• Inspect finished parts using calipers, micrometers, and other precision measuring tools.
• Operate overhead cranes to load and unload large workpieces safely.
• Monitor machine performance and maintain quality standards throughout production.
• Collaborate with experienced machinists to solve manufacturing challenges and improve processes.
• Maintain a safe, organized, and efficient work environment.

Required:

• Experience operating CNC mills or CNC lathes.
• Ability to perform machine setups, tool changes, and offset adjustments.
• Blueprint reading experience.
• Familiarity with precision measuring equipment.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
• Desire to build a long-term career in machining.

Preferred:

• Experience in a job shop environment.
• Knowledge of GD&T.
• Experience machining large parts or working in a heavy industrial setting.
• Ability to make minor CNC program edits.
• Experience operating overhead cranes.
• Machining school, apprenticeship, or manufacturing-related education.

• Four-day work week: Monday through Thursday, 6:00 AM - 4:30 PM
• Overtime available on Fridays as workload demands

Work in a 40,000-square-foot heavy industrial machine shop equipped with more than 30 CNC and manual machines, including Giddings & Lewis, Toshiba, Takumi, Fanuc, YMC, Cincinnati, Viper, and more. You'll machine large-scale components weighing up to 125 tons and measuring up to 50 feet in length.

This is a true job shop environment where projects change frequently, providing continuous opportunities to learn and expand your skill set. Safety is a top priority, and required PPE includes steel-toed boots, safety glasses, hearing protection, and gloves.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Portland, OR.

The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $35.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.

This is a fully onsite position in Portland,OR.
